Introductions

“Selfishness alone is sufficient to bring apocalypse upon a nation.” – Khem Veasna

The Gun Devil: The grim personification of firearm violence from Chainsaw Man.

The Wither Storm: The ever-expanding storm of decay from Minecraft: Story Mode.

The harbinger of humanity's doom is humanity itself; its raw, violent machinations created to take and destroy. When these grand designs grow out of control, only then will they fear what they have created. Will the Gun Devil mow down Ivor’s monster or will the Wither Storm absorb hoplophobia incarnate as part of its endless expansion?

Time to find out in this apocalyptic DEATH BATTLE!

(NormallyNormal)

Before We Begin…

Both characters have very simple media guides. For Gun Devil, we will be using the Chainsaw Man anime & manga.

The Wither Storm will be focused primarily on Minecraft: Story Mode (Seasons 1 & 2) and all possible routes throughout those games, as none diverge too much from the others to the point that any feats become unusable or inapplicable. While we are using some general scaling from Minecraft, we are not focusing on it. If there is no information available on something then we will take it as it is in Minecraft, but otherwise, we will be using only the obscenity that is Minecraft: Story Mode (yes, there will be a Cosmology section).

Additionally, we will be including information from any developer Q&As, interviews, or game trailers.

Finally, because of how these characters interact with the setting they are in, this fight will be taking place on Earth, where the Gun Devil is feared to the same extent it is within Chainsaw Man. The Gun Devil will be at 100% while the Wither Storm will start at the size it is at the end of Minecraft: Story Mode Chapter 3, before it was blown up by the Formidi-Bomb.

Jeez, this was more complicated than we thought it would be…

Background

The Gun Devil

(Toxin)

“September 12, 1997, 3:18:21 P.M. The Gun Devil hits the city of Nikaho in Akita Prefecture, Japan from off coast for 12 seconds”

As the fear of devils rose, so did people’s worldwide need to defend themselves. Thus, the sale and ownership of guns rose. However, this also led to a rise in gun-related crimes, and media coverage ironically led to the public’s fear of guns. One day, a large terrorist attack occurred in America. On that very same day, the Gun Devil appeared. For 5 dreadful minutes, thousands of people died all across the world. After this, the Gun Devil disappeared and gun regulations were strengthened all throughout as the coverage of violent crimes and disasters was restricted.

As a result of the Gun Devil’s attack, many parts of it were shed all over the world. Many devils got their hands on them which made them even stronger than before. Thus, the Public Safety Devil Hunters made one of their top goals to collect these pieces and track down the Gun Devil. Many hunters made it their goal to try to kill the Gun Devil, one such hunter was Denji. After agreeing, he and many other devil hunters would come to the realization that many people had been working as allies with the Gun Devil and were targeting Denji specifically under its orders.

Over time, pieces of the Gun Devil were collected by Public Safety. That was until after most of Public Safety Division 4 returned from a trip to Hell. Makima, one of the heads of Public Safety, revealed that the Gun Devil had already been defeated and its pieces spread to various countries. Thus, the U.S. resurrected the Gun Devil and formed a contract with it to attack Makima. Their battle was fierce as both managed to “kill” the other. However, when Makima supposedly killed the Gun Devil, its remains ended up possessing Aki Hayakawa, a devil hunter. Now known as the Gun Fiend, he went and attempted to kill Denji. Although it seemed as if it were about to defeat him, public interference allowed Denji to gain the upperhand and defeat the Gun Devil, finally ending the world’s most powerful and dangerous devil…or at least one of them.

The Wither Storm

(Toxin)

"Soul Sand, plus three Wither Skulls… that's the recipe for a Wither."

The Order of The Stone, a group of 5 legendary heroes, so strong legend says they defeated the mighty Ender Dragon in a grand battle utilizing their unique skills.

Gabriel, the Warrior.

Magnus, the Rogue.

Ellegaard, the Redstone Engineer.

Zoren, the Architect.

And Ivor.

This legend, of course, was little more than that, a legend, and in reality, they had cheated. Soren had secretly used the power of a reality warping device he created known as the Command Block to grant the group incredible strength, and when they were unable to slay the Ender Dragon even with their powers, Soren used the Command Block to destroy it with the press of a button. With the source of their power revealed to them, the group decided it best to create a grand story of their fight, all of them except for Ivor, who left the order because of their lies.

Years later, the tales of The Order of the Stone were widespread, being admired and renowned as heroes, a fact a bitter Ivor planned to change. He crafted a scheme to out his fellow teammate Gabriel by assembling a Wither powered by the Command Block, to prove Gabriel was a fraud and then save the day with a potion designed to slay the beast. With a 3rd Wither Skull in hand, Ivor summoned the Wither as was his plan, yet the Command Block seemed to amplify the Wither’s power exponentially, it grew so fast that Ivor’s potion bounced off its hide, unable to hit the Command Block at its center, and soon, it grew into a fully-fledged Wither Storm.

The Storm raged on, assimilating warriors and civilians alike; in response, Jesse, Axel, Olivia, Petra, Lucas, and of course, their pig sidekick Reuben, set out to reunite the members of the Order of the Stone in hope they could save the world. What they found is what Ivor knew, they were frauds; not them, not even the Formidi-Bomb, a superweapon created by Soren, could put it down, they had to destroy the Command Block. The Wither Storm's reign of annihilation continued, but Jesse and Co. soon had an answer. Wielding a Command Block weapon, enchanted using a book created by Ivor that weaponizes the Command Block’s own power, Jesse entered the Wither Storm and fought the Command Block, destroying it. The world was saved, but not without sacrifices. During Jesse’s final fight with the Wither Storm, his best friend Reuben took a great fall and died. In the aftermath, Jesse and his friends formed a new Order of the Stone, although this time with a real story to tell.

Intelligence, Experience & Skill

The Gun Devil

While devils in the Chainsaw Man universe are usually incapable of thought, the Gun Devil is one of few devils that is able to comprehend the English language as proven by its response to the U.S. president. The Gun Devil is also pretty experienced in terms of physical combat as it’s able to keep up with the likes of Chainsaw Man even when it’s restricted into an unfamiliar corpse.

There’s also the fact that the Gun Devil, no matter what form it takes, always fires its bullets with not only great amounts of speed behind it but also great amounts of precision. It was able to fire its bullets through very specific groups of people such as shooting anyone within a 1-kilometer radius that had a birthday that was in every month except July through the heart or shooting any child 12 years or below of age within a 1.5 kilometer radius through the head.

The Wither Storm

The Wither Storm hardly qualifies as being able to think. It's unable to plan, strategize, remember past events, reflect on its actions, feel empathy, fear, anger, etc. Instead, it has a natural instinct to attack and consume whatever it can, and preserve itself if its Command Block is under attack. Its senses are fairly limited as well. While it was able to sense and follow Gabriel's Amulet across the entire world, it's implied this is something that only applies to Gabriel’s Amulet due to Ivor’s programming making it constantly follow it. Its main way of sensing the world around it is with the tractor beams protruding from its eyes, using them to locate prey beyond feeling around with its enormous tentacles.

It also wasn't around for very long, only causing mayhem in the world for a few days at most before being destroyed.

Equipment / Weapons

The Gun Devil

Guns

As expected of a devil literally named the Gun Devil, it comes equipped with multiple guns it can use to blast its opponents away with powerful bullets. Those fired off bullets can reach a range of over 500 kilometres and each deal the same amount of damage even if they’re shot from different guns.

Some of the guns either used by the Gun Devil or seen as a part of the Gun Devil’s anatomy include…

AK-47: A 30-round assault rifle with a lack of accuracy in exchange for power.

AR-15: An automatic lightweight rifle that carries more ammunition with smaller bullets.

L96A1: A bolt-action sniper rifle that was regarded as one of the best in the world in the past.

M14: A kind of semi-automatic battle rifle that is quite modifiable.

M16: Your average semi-automatic 30-round assault rifle.

MK18: The more compact version of the M4 Carbine.

M4 Carbines: A lightweight rifle that works best close-up with deadly amounts of accuracy.

Infantry Rifles: Semi-automatic assault rifles that excel where assault rifles can’t except for range.

The Wither Storm

The Command Block

The Command Block is easily one of the most powerful blocks to ever be let loose in the world of Minecraft: Story Mode, and Minecraft as a whole.

The Command Block is capable of warping reality itself to increase stats, manipulate matter, erase beings from existence, and much much more. Unfortunately (or fortunately in our case), the Wither Storm's lack of intelligence means it's unable to actually utilize the Command Block and its reality warping effects, instead just using it as a power source.

Even still, the Command Block is nigh-indestructible, only being harmed by its own power being harnessed into a weapon specifically designed to destroy it, and despite not being used to its full potential, the Wither Storm still makes good use of its power, with it being the very thing that grants the Wither Storm its unfathomable power (will be elaborated on later).

Powers / Abilities

The Gun Devil

Devil Physiology

In the world of Chainsaw Man, devils come in many shapes and sizes. Despite their initial difference in appearance and abilities, they all essentially share the same traits. Every devil present in the series was one that was born out of humanity’s greatest fears. Depending on how feared a literal concept is within the greater world, it not only determines the existence of said devil but it also makes the devil all the more powerful. Simply put, the bigger the fear, the bigger the force that the associated devil becomes. With the concept of guns being one of the most feared concepts in the entire world, it’s become one of THE most feared devils to ever coexist within human society.

Along with potential power boosts, devils have a plethora of general abilities that they all share, including…

Limited Immortality: As long as a fear persists within human society, the devil will continue to live on even after death via rebirth into Hell itself. Once that devil dies within the confines of Hell, they reincarnate into our world once again, losing all their memories of the other world in the process. This cycle can then repeat forever and ever and ever.

Enhanced Senses: Devils have been regarded to have a keen sense of smell, a sense that’s much stronger than those of regular humans. The most relevant example is when Power was able to tell that the Gun Devil was possessing the corpse of a familiar friend through smell alone.

Regeneration: Every devil can regenerate from any injury depending on the amount of blood they consume. Little amounts of blood have been shown to heal broken bones and even restore entire lost limbs, while stronger devils, such as Hell Devil, could fully revive long after they had already died. Gun Devil should be within this higher ballpark of regeneration.

Possession: If a devil is on its last legs, it can possess corpses as a way to survive. The most prominent example is when Pochita was able to take over Denji’s body after he had died to the Zombie Devil’s army of zombies. The Gun Devil has also been shown to be able to possess human corpses as it managed to escape death after possessing… Aki’s corpse…Yikes. Despite being dead, Aki seemed to have some semblance of a consciousness after being possessed, seeing the world around him through muddled vision. He saw his friends as kid versions of themselves and saw their battle as a snowball fight, unaware of the destruction he was causing.

Contracts

In Chainsaw Man, people can make contracts with devils. These contracts result in whoever makes the deal gaining a part of the devil’s abilities in exchange for whatever would be equal to the power they request, such as body parts. If both parties do not hold up their ends of the contract, both parties will die. When it comes to specifically the Gun Devil, the president of the United States exchanged a year’s worth of American lifespans in order to essentially hire the devil to kill Makima.

Flight

The Gun Devil in its devil form seems to be able to levitate high above the ground and it can travel great distances while doing so.

Shockwave Creation

The Gun Devil can create powerful omnidirectional shockwaves with movement alone.

Ability Activation

As explained in the skill section, the Gun Devil’s ability allows it to target specific people based on certain conditions. It can target people based on stuff like age, birth date, etc. For example, it was able to precisely hit the hearts of every citizen based on what month they were born in with the range varying, usually going up to a kilometre or even beyond that. Most impressively, it can target a specific person, as seen when it precisely hit Makima in the head after locating her from several kilometres away.

Multiple Limbs

The multiple guns you see equipped on Gun Devil aren’t actual guns per say. Each and every gun is in fact an additional limb that seems to sprout from where the Gun Devil’s arms should be. It may have all those arms but it lacks any form of legs, which seems to have been replaced with long ammo belts attached to its torso (although legs are the last thing this devil needs to be frank).

Gun Head

Lodged where its forehead should be, the Gun Devil rocks a giant gun that allows it to shoot bullets with great power from its head. It keeps this giant gun regardless of whether it’s currently using its Devil form or its Fiend form.

Flesh Pieces

When it moves at high speed, bits of the Gun Devil’s flesh burn off. These bits of flesh will slowly join back together, with them moving towards bigger parts of the Gun Devil the bigger they get. The Gun Devil is able to survive and operate at just 20% of its normal size. When a devil (specifically one from the Chainsaw Man verse) consumes these pieces, their power is heavily enhanced, with even one bullet making an otherwise weak devil noticeably stronger.

Resistances

The Wither Storm

Wither Storm Physiology

The Wither Storm is far from your run-of-the-mill Wither. Unlike regular Withers, who are created through 4 soul sand and 3 Wither skulls, the Wither Storm was created with a Command Block at its center, becoming one with it and gaining access to its limitless pool of power.

For starters, the Wither Storm is an undead entity, meaning it's more reminiscent of a moving corpse than a living being. Because of this, it has no real need to eat, sleep, or breathe, proven by its endless rampage.

More notably is its seemingly unlimited growth, being able to absorb nearby blocks, items, or entities and incorporate them into its own body, letting it grow in size and power without end.

Most terrifying of all, however, is the relation between the Wither Storm's physical body and the Command Block. The Wither Storm is held together by the Command Block's power, meaning that so long as the Command Block exists, the Wither Storm can never die. It will simply reform itself good as new, and since most of its body is just blocks it has absorbed, it can mold it to do whatever it wants, such as grow new body parts when necessary, and even undergo a sort of mitosis to create more of itself. This also allows it to grow heads within its own body to fight off intruders.

Wither Sickness

The Wither Storm can spread death to all living beings that are exposed to it for too long, infecting them with the deadly Wither Sickness.

This plague will slowly wither away a victim's body, weakening them over time and only getting worse until they're eventually too weak to fight. Then, it will strip the target of their memories, making them forget who they ever were, and at its worst, it will make the victim suffer a fate indistinguishable from death, leaving them as a literal husk of their former selves. The only way to stop Wither Sickness is to kill the Wither Storm itself, a task much easier said than done.

The more time someone is exposed to the Wither Storm, the quicker they will suffer from its effects. For reference, Petra/Gabriel were only exposed to the Wither Storm for a couple of minutes more than Jesse at most, yet even after being far away from the Wither Storm for a while, the disease weakened them to the point they were unable to fight in just a little over a day.

Throughout Story Mode, we see the Wither Sickness do a variety of things to a victim.

  • Disease Manipulation: It can infect a target after being trapped in the Wither Storm's tractor beams or coming into contact with its body for a short time.

  • Memory Manipulation: It erased the memories of either Petra or Gabriel from prolonged contact with the Wither Storm, causing them to forget who they were and all they ever achieved, only somewhat regaining them after they were taken far away from the Wither Storm and constantly aided for an extensive period of time.

  • Biological Manipulation: The disease will spread through and weaken a target’s body over a period of time. In just a little over a day, it rendered a perfectly healthy adventurer physically incapable of fighting.

  • Corruption: Victims of Wither Sickness will find their bodies slowly withering away, until they are left as what can best be described as “undead statues.” This is best shown with Gabriel’s Amulet, an advanced device capable of pinpointing the locations of the Order of the Stone, which was unable to track Gabriel once consumed by the Wither Storm, meaning it must have considered him to be dead, or basically dead. Gabriel himself described it as more fatal than the typical version of the Wither effect.

Tentacles

These thick, sturdy appendages come in all shapes and sizes. Versatile enough to catch smaller targets and hold on to large objects with ease. The Wither Storm has a shit ton of these and can simply grow more whenever it wants.

Telekinesis

With its sheer power, the Wither Storm pulls nearby objects and people into itself. It uses this to lift itself off the ground, and constantly has blocks spinning around itself at all times (like… like a… a storm).

Explosive Skulls

Much like the Wither in Vanilla Minecraft, the Wither Storm can blast flaming skulls that explode upon impact.

Tractor Beams

Speaking of which, perhaps its most iconic ability, the tractor beams are used for catching prey that is too far away for its usual telekinesis to grab onto.

These are powerful enough to pull in buildings, towns, and even the ground we walk on, and too much exposure to it can infect anyone with the Wither Sickness.

Absorption

The Wither Storm wouldn't be the unstoppable force of nature it is if it wasn't for its unlimited potential. Anything that is pulled into the Wither Storm's body is absorbed and integrated into its own mass, functionally killing any living being in the process.

Even blocks of theoretically indestructible nature such as bedrock can be absorbed by this beast, meaning running is basically your only option.

The only real weakness to this ability is that sufficient damage to the Wither Storm’s physical body will cause absorbed entities to be released, although, at best, this will only buy you some time, especially due to…

Regeneration

The Wither Storm possesses an absurd healing factor. Essentially, since the Command Block is the Wither Storm's power source and heart, so long as it remains intact, the Wither Storm can reform itself by simply absorbing more blocks.

This form of borderline immortality makes it extremely difficult to kill, as any damage done to its physical body is pointless so long as the Command Block remains intact, although its healing can be overtaxed if attacked non-stop, which can serve to access the Command Block.

Body Control

Due to its physical body just being blocks it’s absorbed, The Wither Storm can shift its form in a variety of ways, such as sprouting new limbs like tentacles or heads anywhere it wants, even inside its own body to fight off intruders.

Bio-Fission

If the Wither Storm's body is destroyed into pieces, each of those pieces will become an individual Wither Storm capable of all the same things as the original. These mini-Wither Storms act independently of the main body and can attack nearby entities even if the main one is distracted, and much like the OG, they won't die so long as the Command Block is intact.

Resistances

  • Mind Manipulation: The Wither Storm was programmed by Ivor to obey his commands, yet despite this, it could ignore its programming and go on a rampage.

  • Disease Manipulation/Corruption: The Wither Storm is unaffected by its own Wither Sickness due to not being a living organism, but rather an undead monster.

  • Memory Manipulation: The Wither Storm isn’t sentient to begin with, being much more like a robot programmed to do certain things, so there aren’t really any memories to erase/mess with, or if there are, it wouldn't affect it in any notable way. Unaffected by its own Wither Sickness.

  • Biological Manipulation: The Wither Storm's body isn't biological in nature, but rather, it’s a large mass of inorganic blocks it has absorbed, meaning it should be immune to any biological effects. It’s also unaffected by its own Wither Sickness.

Since the Wither Storm is essentially an enhanced version of Minecraft’s Wither, it should share a lot of the same resistances that it has. Do note that this is moreso based on partial speculation and you’re free to choose if you want to include these or not.

  • Heat: Withers are naturally immune to any sort of fire attack as well as lava.

  • Drowning: You can’t drown a Wither due to its lack of lungs.

  • Freezing: Freezing a Wither with powdered snow will show no effect on it.

  • Poison Manipulation: Withers are unaffected by the Poison effect.

  • Perception Manipulation: Withers are unaffected by the Nausea and Blindness effects.

  • Power Bestowal: Unable to be granted a variety of status effects, such as Invisibility, Levitation, Slow Falling, Absorption, Night Vision and Regeneration.

  • Statistics Manipulation: Cannot have its base stats altered through any special effects.

  • Luck Manipulation: Unaffected by the Luck and Bad Luck status effects.

  • Darkness Manipulation: Unaffected by the Darkness status effect.

  • Light Manipulation: Unaffected by the Glowing status effect.

  • Void: The Wither is unaffected by the effects of being in the Void.

Forms

The Gun Devil

Gun Fiend

When the Gun Devil is near death by any sort of cause, it can take over any surrounding dead bodies and continue living as the host of that new body. In this case, the Gun Devil had taken over the dead body of Aki, becoming the newfound Gun Fiend in order to track down Denji and kill him.

Fragmented Devil Form

And yes we are using the same image again…

The Gun Devil that we see within the current events of the story is actually a weaker version of the Gun Devil than the one that’s seen on the November 18th attack. This form of the devil was created after it had been defeated by an unknown cause, leading to the devil being split into 5 pieces and being given to different countries for safekeeping.

When the president of the U.S. summons the Gun Devil in order to kill Makima, he was only in contact with 20% of the being, but despite only being 20%, the Gun Devil still shows to have great power behind its attacks.

Full Devil Form

Now this form is one that represents the full power of the Gun Devil, the devil that caused the entire November 18th attack by itself. Although we don’t see this form in the manga, it’s been described by the official Jump Festa page as a form that had legs, bones, feet, and flesh when it initially appeared during the terrorist attacks.

The Wither Storm

Original Wither Body

The Wither Storm’s original form. This form appears to be as strong as a regular Wither. Shortly after being created, it formed a massive shell around itself comprised of absorbed blocks, meaning that it's likely its original form is somewhere within its body, but either absorbed into its mass or buried deep beneath itself.

Stats

The Gun Devil

Overall

  • Is considered one of, if not the most dangerous and powerful devils in the world.

  • Caused the November 18th attack.

  • Was considered to be one of the only devils that could kill Makima.

  • Gave Aki a relatable backstory.

  • Will have a banger scene in the anime.

  • Killed- Jesus FUCK there’s too many people to list

Power

Speed

Durability

  • The 20% Gun Devil shows no signs of damage when it rams through entire cities

    • This applies to not just one city but all major cities across the world when it first attacked.

  • 20% Gun Devil tanks its own crater creation when it stops.

  • Blocked multiple hits from Chainsaw Man in fiend form.

The Wither Storm

Overall

  • Was a threat to the entire world

  • Physically outmatched the entire cast

  • Killed Reuben and Magnus or Ellegaard (depending on the route)

  • Fraud-checked the Order of the Stone

  • Had absorbed a large chunk of the world by the end of its story

  • Banger theme

  • Literally, why isn't this in the base game?

Power

Speed

  • Could fly from the Order's Temple to Redstonia in less than a day (Mach 1.06)

  • Kept up with Jesse on horseback.

  • Reduced much of the world to bedrock in a few days.

  • The Wither Storm's attacks were too fast for Gabriel to defend against.

Durability

Scaling

These two monstrosities are both some of the strongest characters in their respective verses. Gun Devil can scale above almost every devil in Chainsaw Man due to being one of the most feared beings in the verse, with the exception of the primals like the Falling Devil and Darkness Devil. Meanwhile, the Wither Storm can scale above everyone in Minecraft: Story Mode due to physically outclassing literally every character it faces by a massive margin including Jesse, who himself is shown to be comparable to most other antagonists across the games, with the exception of PAMMA and The Admins like Romeo.

Chainsaw Man

Just kidding!

Minecraft: Story Mode

I wish we were kidding…

Also sorry, Discount Ginger

The purpose of this section is to explain our interpretation of MCSM’s world and the ways in which it varies from or is similar to regular Minecraft.

For starters, the Story Mode world has much greater gravity than Earth, pulling objects down at an average acceleration of 24 m/s^2, making it much denser.

Size

One of the first things established for the size of the Minecraft Story Mode World is the existence of the Far Lands, which are in fact a thing in regular Minecraft.

The Minecraft world is designed to be infinite, but eventually, world generation breaks and it begins to act in chaotic ways. According to Wikipedia, this happens at a distance of around 12,550,821 blocks from the center of the world (1 block = 1 meter). This would mean that the world is roughly 25,101,642 million meters in diameter; however, the world is not a square:

According to this Map of the World, the world is rectangular, with a ratio of 7x10, assuming the Far Lands distance to be the shorter of the two axes, the world is 25,101,642 by 35,142,298.8 meters.

Read from a book in Ivor’s hideout, this statement means the world is far deeper than a typical Minecraft world giving dimensions of at least 25,101,642 by 35,142,298.8 by 20,000 meters.

Additionally, there is more than 1 world buried underneath the bedrock known as the first world, which should be just as big as the main world due to being created by the Admins in the same way, so as to account for the previous world beneath the bedrock, we will double our volume to give us a size of 3.5285176x1019 m3, a mass of 6.8499718e+24 kg, (due to Minecrafts gravity of 24 m/s) and a gravitational binding energy of 4.3051249x1032 Joules.

Infinite Size Argument

This idea has a little bit going for it, as seen here Olivia believes the world goes down forever. One could make the argument that this is just outright contradicted by the existence of a second world beneath the bedrock and bedrock in general, however, since the Far Lands are stated to not abide by the laws of physics or logic, it is technically possible for an infinite space to exist within them.

Overall, while a fun possibility, it’s still pretty shaky, so for the purposes of this blog at least, it won’t be taken into account in the final verdict.

Other Worlds

Finally, while the Wither Storm doesn't scale to any of the other worlds, it is definitely worth mentioning. There seems to be at least 39 other dimensions in Minecraft: Story Mode; the 36 seen above, the Old Builder’s dimension, as well as the Nether and the End. Neat.

However, we can go even further.

We know from episode 8 that each dimension has its own Nether, and likely, its own End. This means that, in total, Minecraft: Story Mode could have up to 111 universes.

Solos your favorite verse tbh

Weaknesses

The Gun Devil

Despite the Gun Devil being an absolute powerhouse among devils, it does have some noticeable faults in its general nature. As a devil, it relies on the emotion of fear to keep itself powerful as having any less fear around their concept weakens them. Its regeneration can only take it so far, and it will have a harder time regenerating if there’s no blood for it to absorb, and if it’s forced to go into its fiend form as a last resort, it’ll be significantly weaker than in its devil form.

With the Gun Devil specifically, it has an overreliance on using ranged attacks and it can be rendered useless if it’s split into multiple pieces that are unable to pull themselves back together.

The Wither Storm

The Wither Storm is easily distractible, if you throw enough bodies its way it will probably not know you are there. While this can be circumvented in a way with the smaller Wither Storms, it's still a notable weakness. Additionally, it's not particularly Smart, so a clever enough opponent can pretty easily lure it into a trap, and while its Command Block is astoundingly durable, its physical body is much weaker, meaning that it can still be torn apart by a strong enough blast or weapon.

Of course, its biggest weakness is its reliance on the Command Block. The Command Block is what keeps the Wither Storms together, it maintains it, so if it's destroyed, then all the Wither Storms will permanently die. While it is unlikely for this to happen due to the Command Block's absurd durability, it's still something to keep in mind.

Before The Verdict

Relativistic CSM: Mistranslation?

Simply put, we saw a claim that the original Japanese text for this panel stated that as opposed to The Gun Devil being in each country for that amount of time like the official localization, it is actually the time it takes for them to go from one country to the next, and specifically it would mean that instead of Gun Devil being in Hawaii for 0.4 seconds, it instead took it 0.4 seconds to go from the Soviet Union to Hawaii. Talking to people who know what they are talking about (shoutout to Rina) we confirmed that the localization is in fact accurate.

Relativistic MCSM: Fraudulent?

During chapter 2 of MCSM, Jesse seemingly reacts to lasers being shot at him from Elder Guardians.

While these are stated to be lasers, it’s a little more complicated than that. For starters, it’s extremely difficult to tell whether Jesse is actually dodging the lasers after they’re fired or not. Going through frame-by-frame gives no real conclusive answer, so it’s a tough call to make. Secondly, while they do follow most rules for being lasers, such as moving in a straight line and being referred to as lasers, they do appear to have some form of mass, as they cause the floor to shake upon impacting it.

Ultimately, how valid you think it is comes down to how lenient you are with laser qualifications and such, so it’s still worth mentioning.

Absorption = Duraneg?

An interesting question is whether the Wither Storm’s absorption should count for durability negation. While people are generally hesitant on just slapping the duraneg brand onto any ability, based on our research, we came to the conclusion that it should qualify.

For starters, the Wither Storm’s absorption never shows any indication of being reliant on durability, nor is there any reason to believe so. The way it’s portrayed is that items pulled into its body are incorporated into its mass, with the durability or make-up of the material in question not mattering in the slightest.

This is also backed-up by the fact that the Wither Storm’s absorption can one-shot Jesse, who can normally survive direct hits from the Wither Storm, showing that it explicitly bypasses his conventional durability.

Finally, we see in Story Mode that the Wither Storm is capable of absorbing bedrock. We know from season 2 that bedrock was created by Romeo, the Admin and creator of the world, to cover up the First World and prevent them from ever seeing the light of day again. Considering how Romeo has showcased feats on a similar level, if not greater to the Command Block’s capabilities, and considering how he specifically created the bedrock to prevent First World from ever being uncovered, it’s very unlikely that he’d half-ass it, and much more likely that the bedrock’s durability is comparable, and likely even greater than that of the Command Block, which would be a massive outlier for the Wither Storm’s AP if it was able to absorb it, as it’s made clear that its body is leagues weaker than the Command Block, meaning it’s more likely that the Wither Storm’s absorption simply bypassed the bedrock’s durability.

Also, the bedrock is literally what holds up the entire MCSM world, so…

All in all, there’s a lot more pointing towards the idea that the Wither Storm’s ability to absorb objects can bypass the durability of said matter.

How Durable is the Command Block?

In short, as The Wither Storm’s source of power, it should scale to its theoretical max, regardless of how much the Storm has grown. While the Wither Storm’s body certainly shouldn’t scale to this level of power, the Command Block itself should. This section addresses some potential counterarguments.

Since the Wither Storm is constantly growing in power, the Command Block wouldn't scale since it would eventually become more powerful than the Command Block.

This argument doesn't work because the Command Block is what powers the Wither Storm and keeps it together, like a battery. I don't think I need to explain why it wouldn't make sense for something to somehow have more power than the thing it's powered by.

If a fan consumed, say, 5000 watts over the span of a day without switching batteries, then those batteries must have had 5000 watts worth of energy to begin with.

Hell, even if you give it the benefit of the doubt and assume that the Wither Storm physically became stronger than the Command Block's power somehow, the Command Block is still the thing keeping the Wither Storm's body together thanks to its power, meaning that it would still scale to planet level AP anyways by virtue of being able to maintain the Wither Storm's body.

The Command Block grows in power over time like the Wither Storm, meaning its planet levels of power isn't something it has to begin with.

There's not really much evidence to prove the Command Block somehow becomes more powerful as the Wither Storm absorbs things, nor would it make much sense to begin with, but let's just cover all our bases here.

The Command Block was destroyed by an enchanted weapon that utilized its power from before the events of the game, pretty much solidifying the fact that the Command Block didn't get any stronger throughout the story.

The Command Block's durability doesn't scale to its power.

The Command Block could tank multiple hits from the aforementioned enchanted weapon that utilized its own power, meaning that its durability should certainly be comparable to its power.

The Wither Storm being able to absorb the entire world is just speculation from the characters.

While it's true that we never see the Wither Storm fully consume the world, pretty much every character in the story treats the Wither Storm as a world-ending threat, and there are numerous statements from the characters backing up the idea that the Wither Storm was going to end the world. This includes statements from Soren, the guy who literally created the Command Block, as well as Ellegaard, a Redstone genius capable of creating a Command Block. There’s even statements from the developers that express the Wither Storm’s world-ending potential. Finally, the task of defeating the Wither Storm was seen as so impressive that the Admin Romeo, someone who we blatantly see possesses world-ending power himself and even beyond that, finally showed himself for the first time since the world's creation to congratulate Jesse directly, adding much more validity to the command block's power.

How Much TNT?

The Wither Storm has a few statements about its supposed extreme durability from Magnus and Ellegaard that can be called into question. The “all the TNT in the world” statement is likely hyperbole, as that is an incalculably large amount of TNT, and more or less seems to imply that Ellegaard believes TNT in general just is not enough to take it down. This statement is contradicted by the “mountain of TNT statement”  from Magnus. This contradiction makes sense, though, as Ellegaard likely wants to downplay explosives, while Magnus wants to glaze them. All things considered, the amount of TNT the Wither Storm can take is probably greater than a mountain of TNT if you believe these characters to be somewhat accurate with these statements, which they should be as specialists of Redstone and explosives respectively.

TripleCx3

Thanks for reading the first full blog from The Versus Battle Arena, this has been a ton of fun to do and I hope that everything else planned doesn't all go to shit. Really appreciate everyone who worked on this especially Normal who played both MCSM games and did so much math, bro absolutely cooked. He also yapped like crazy for his verdict so read it, it's the most in-depth here.

Stats

Let's start with stats, and in my opinion, they are mostly irrelevant. Gun Devil is way faster, to the point of being in blitzing range, I think the Rela calc is very much up in the air but considering how much Jesse developed as a character since The Wither Storms death I’m not entirely sure I would scale The Storm to the laser dodging, even if it's legitimate. Using The most reliable stats of Gun Devil’s Kinetic Energy and Wither Storm’s GBE The Gun Devil is probably stronger by a decent amount, however, I personally think The Mountain of TNT statement is probably fine but its use doesn't change my opinion on one simple fact…

The Gun Devil cannot do shit to The Command Block.

Just straight up cannot do shit to it, the gap is way too large for it to deal any relevant Damage, and the nature of this fight is that while The Wither Storm Grows in power by absorbing everything, The Gun Devil gets weaker as they kill people that fear it.

Arsenal & Abilities

Looking at their offensive abilities, I don't think Gun Devil has much going on for it either, its superior range doesn’t let it win, and I don’t believe that it could possess The Wither Storm. The possession only ever is stated to work on corpses and The Wither Storm isn't a corpse, even if it's undead. The Gun Devil could absolutely possess one of the many corpses this fight would create but not the Wither Storm. (The Wither Storm is also partially made up of corpses)

On the flipside, The Wither Storm should be able to absorb The Gun Devil, it can absorb shit like Bedrock, and all it needs is to get it with a tractor beam and its game, match, set.

I also think The Wither Storm has actual answers to The Gun Devil’s regen/resurrection, absorbing it isn't actually killing it so I don’t think The Gun Devil would even be sent to hell in the first place, but even if it was then The Wither Storm would eventually kill everyone who could fear it and Gun Devil would cease to exist

Conclusion

I think overall it’s just way easier to justify a Wither Storm win the arguments are very straightforward, and it actually has a way to win which shocker is a big thing. There are other things that contribute to this debate but they are relatively minor in comparison (sorry I'm not bringing up skill here, Wither Storm is clam-level intelligence lol). I just don’t see how Gun Devil wins. I believe that the stats and arsenals of these characters overwhelmingly favour The Wither Storm

Also not remotely relevant but I wanna bring up the fact that The Wither Storm showing up in Chainsawman would probably create a Wither Storm Devil.

John

Wassap y'all, John here on my first collab blog, and this is certainly an interesting match to start with. Going into this I thought the Gun Devil would easily win, but both characters have super unique physiologies that create a lot of moving parts for this battle.

Stats

This one shouldn't be too difficult, the Gun Devil with its KE can very easily reach into around city - mountain, and while I think there's potential to go higher it doesn't matter much as the Wither Storm is only reaching around 30 megatons, over a 3x difference in favour of The Gun. While there are some other statements that can get the Wither Storm far higher, I feel they're far too vague to be usable and rely on some assumptions (like the characters being literal about their statements or the statements being quantifiable in the first place).

As for speed, Gun Devil should also solidly take this reaching up to Mach 600 while the Storm is only around Mach 20, more than a 30x difference in movement speed. Both have relativistic ends but neither should be usable, in the Gun’s case translations seem to point towards the far lower ends. Meanwhile for the Storm I don't think these rela feats should be usable at all. Not only do these lasers have contradictory properties, they also only seem to be one frame and thus I don't think in-tandem movement should be provable.

One last thing is the Command Block, which like others have mentioned should be absurdly stronger than anything in Chainsaw Man. While this seems bad for the Gun, I believe it has some ways around this. Due to its sheer speed gap and precision like I'll mention later, I think it can very slowly but surely chip away at the Command Block. While chipping away at a gap that big sounds absurd, this battle should last a long time due to both having practically an infinite amount of stamina. Although that's something I'll mention later.

Arsenal & Abilities

This is where the matchup gets really interesting, there's a lot of things to compare and contrast with both character's physiologies.

First thing I wanna go over is survivability, both have many ways to extend this battle for a long time. In terms of regen, the Gun can survive and function as just 20% of its body mass while the Storm can slowly regen from a Command Block. Along with its fissionism and absorption increasing its body mass, the Storm should take this category. Except that's not the full story, the Gun has unique regeneration even among devils, that being its pieces coming back together which seems to work even without blood. Due to the Gun not needing to spread its bullets across the world via having only one target, its pieces should come back to him effectively allowing it to continue shooting for as long as possible.

The Wither Storm does have some ways to apply pressure though, one of its main offensive options being the Wither Sickness. While it seems dangerous at first, devils in general are completely immune to abilities like the Zombie and Doll devils that rewrite the biology of the opponent and erase the personalities of the victims instantly, I don't think the sickness will be much of a factor in this battle. The main thing The Gun has to worry about though is its absorption, which could completely end the fight once its whole body has been consumed. However, this won't be an easy task at all since the Storm would have to absorb at least 80%+ of its body to hinder the Gun effectively. Its regen should also be effective in dealing with this as it passively pulls pieces of itself back towards itself, effectively making the Storm’s absorption useless as anything that gets absorbed will come out of the Storm's body back to the Gun’s main body. Like I mentioned earlier, this alongside its bullets going back towards its body allows the Gun to effectively fight as long as possible with just one target and 100% of its body mass (unlike what it had against Makima).

Now for the Gun’s wincons, which are just kinda brute forcing it, so could the Gun Devil outlast the Storm and win a battle of attrition? With the Gun Devil basically making a perpetual motion machine and the Wither Storm needing to absorb more than 80% of the Gun Devil, you can definitely make that case. Let's go over something else, the Gun’s sheer skill and range advantage, it can precisely hit the Storm from several kilometers away and not even need to get close, also having the skill to avoid stuff like tractor beams (it could likely lose large chunks of its body and gain it back later even if it did get caught). But even with this the Storm will continue to absorb more material around it even if the Gun is slowing it down significantly, and the longer the battle goes on the more people die which will eventually lead to no one left to fear the Gun. Despite its stat and skill advantage, the Storm’s unkillable nature will eventually make it a losing battle. Although the Gun can also create multiple other Gun Devils (due to other countries seemingly having their own 20% Gun Devils) the Storm’s fissionism should be far more effective since they can each grow on their own. Ultimately, although the Gun is dominating for the start of the fight, the Storm will be slowly winning the more the fight goes on. However, on the brink of death the Gun should have one more Ace in the hole.

The Gun Devil’s possession is certainly an interesting ability to bring up as it’s not really used in combat necessarily, however I believe this battle presents it a unique opportunity for this ability to matter. The Wither itself is undead in nature, meaning a devil could probably possess it. There is one problem with this though, the Storm’s outer body is mostly inorganic material, meaning the Gun would have to somehow locate the main Wither body and possess it. While this seems like it'd be impossible due to the Storm’s internal defenses, however the Gun has the perfect ability to pull this off imo, that being its automatic targeting. Using this ability the Gun was able to locate Makima from several kilometers away and within fractions of a second could precisely target people within a city based on their specific birth month (likely while they were inside buildings much like the Wither), finding the Wither’s main body should be a piece of cake. Also as we established before, it can likely shred through the Storm’s outer body, leaving the main body exposed. Once the Storm’s possessed though won't it just break free like it did with Ivor’s coding? Likely not, as you also have to take an additional property of the possession into account, that being the sorta dream world it makes. As we saw with Aki, when possessed by a devil the original body of the Fiend still has a consciousness left inside a sorta dream state where it can't distinguish reality from falsehood, sorta like Pyrovision in TF2 ig (possibly hint at future blog?). The Wither wouldn't necessarily know that there's mind manip to fight against, as in its POV the Gun’s actions would be its own. I don't think any ability we've seen the Wither resist is comparable to this at all, the sickness just gives the victim amnesia while the possession creates an entire false world in the victim’s mind. Overall I don't see any real way the Wither can counter this, but there is smth else I wanna cover, that being what would the fiend itself look like? While it likely wouldn't be as strong as the main Gun Devil, it'd likely be above whatever tier the Wither Storm was at before as fiends buff the human bodies to a certain degree. Additionally, it should be able to take out the smaller storm clones rather easily as it has both the Gun Devil’s and Wither Storm’s abilities. Most scarily though, due to possessing actual intelligence it might be able to utilize the Command Block’s actual abilities. There's another possibility I wanna go over though, what if it just fused with the Storm like Asa and Yoru? Even if you wanna argue the Storm somehow breaks out of the possession, the Gun Devil could sorta merge its brain with the Storm so that they're kinda the same person, although that'd be its own can of worms and I'm not sure who you'd say wins in that case.

Conclusion

While this battle has a lot of moving parts and could go either way, it comes down to either a battle of attrition or either character’s ace in the hole. In terms of attrition, while the Gun Devil can put up a good fight and possibly come out the victor, the Wither Storm is built far too well for a battle of attrition like this and thus should come out on top in the end. However, I believe the Gun Devil’s possession is too powerful of a wincon for the Wither Storm to effectively counter as it hasn't faced anything quite like it before, meanwhile the Wither Sickness is far below the biological manipulation, mind manipulation, and disease manipulation that devils are effectively immune to. Even if the sickness did work, the Gun Devil dying would likely send it to hell and eventually allow it to revive (although that'd be a different Gun Devil and probably wouldn't necessarily count? Eh whole different convo I'll let y'all debate that).

In the end, Wither or not you agree, I believe the Gun Devil takes this.

NormallyNormal

Oh boy, this blog was a blast to work on. Getting to revisit Minecraft: Story Mode after all these years has been an experience like no other. But you’re not here to listen to my stupid feelings, you want me to talk about who beats the shit out of who, and believe me, there’s a lot to talk about here, so let’s not waste any more time.

Stats

In terms of stats, both have a lot of different ends that can be used for either. Starting low, these two are certainly no slouch. The Wither Storm first appearing at the start of Story Mode generated an explosion worth 1.44 tons of TNT, and it later surviving the Formidi-Bomb would put it in the range of 122.14 to 246.62 kilotons of TNT. Likewise, the Gun Devil destroying cities with ease would put it at casually 8.4 kilotons of TNT, and scaling to the Typhoon Devil, it can reach ranges of 10.6 to 413.6 kilotons of TNT. While low-ends slightly favor the Gun Devil, the gap is small enough that it doesn’t make much of a difference. The high-ends are a similar story. While the Gun Devil’s kinetic energy reaching 107.2 megatons may seem to overshadow the Wither Storm’s gravitational binding energy of 32.99 megatons, keep in mind that the Wither Storm absorbed Beacontown very early on in the story, and we know it got MUCH bigger since then, meaning it should upscale this feat by a considerable amount, putting them once again at a relative level.

While the Wither Storm does have a very debatable statement that would put it at a much higher level, the hyperbolic nature of it does make it a little too far fetched to use, even with the supporting statements.

Speed is considerably more clear cut; starting with low-ends, the Gun Devil’s bullets can reach speeds up to Mach 203.7, while the Wither Storm’s trip to Redstonia only reaches Mach 1.06, and even scaling to the funny DanTDM feat would still fall short at Mach 2.89 to 5.78. As for high-ends, the Gun Devil could race around the world at speeds up to Mach 635, while the Wither Storm can, at best, scale to feats reaching Mach 22.94. While there’s an argument to be made for relativistic scaling, considering the Guardian’s lasers don’t have the same properties as real lasers, it’s likely a stretch to assume they move at the speed of light, giving the Gun Devil a massive speed advantage.

So, while they may be comparable in physical might, the Gun Devil is significantly faster, so it should take stats, right?

Well… there is one thing I left out.

The Command Block.

While the Gun Devil may be on the same level as the Wither Storm’s physical body, the Command Block is established to be much more durable, to the point that no other weapon besides itself can even scratch it. The Command Block being able to maintain the Wither Storm’s body at its full potential would give it an output of 102.9 zettatons of TNT, eclipsing even the best the Gun Devil could scale to. Of course, do recall that the Wither Storm’s body is much weaker than the Command Block, and since the Wither Storm can’t tap into the Command Block’s power, this wouldn’t scale to its AP either. What this does mean, however, is that the Gun Devil has no way to destroy the Command Block through physical might alone, so even if it managed to destroy the Wither Storm’s body and reach the Command Block, it would take a lot more than just shooting it a bunch to destroy it, which will be very important later.

Overall, these two are comparable in terms of sheer physical might no matter what ends you use, but while the Gun Devil may always be faster, it lacks a way to compare to the sheer durability of the Command Block, giving the Wither Storm an edge in stats.

Arsenal & Abilities

Now this is the real meat of the debate.

To get this out of the way, both have insanely strong healing factors, allowing them to regenerate from most injuries with ease. Both can regenerate lost limbs, and survive even after being broken down into smaller pieces. However, both of these healing factors stem from different power sources, which ultimately gives the Wither Storm the edge. While the Gun Devil’s regeneration is impressive, it becomes harder for it to heal itself without blood, especially against large injuries, and it’s been shown that it can be overwhelmed with enough attacks, weakening it to the point it can’t regenerate and dies, similar to how Makima first defeated it. On the other hand, while the Wither Storm’s healing can be overtaxed by non-stop attacks, it can’t actually die so long as the Command Block exists, meaning breaking overtaxing its regeneration will only really slow it down. It will simply reform itself after a while, good as new, making killing it significantly more difficult, and as established earlier, the Gun Devil can’t simply destroy the Command Block with brute force.

However, due to these two’s kit, this fight is far from as simple as that. This is essentially a massive war of attrition, so let's cover their abilities and how they counter each other to get a grasp on the bigger picture.

Both can fly, so neither has an inherent mobility edge, but the Gun Devil’s massive amount of guns across its entire body does give it a considerable range advantage, being able to shoot people across multiple kilometers and in a massive radius around itself with its ability activation, so the Wither Storm is gonna have a hard time getting close to the Gun Devil. More importantly, since the Gun Devil becomes more powerful based on fear, due to the sheer collateral damage these two cause, it’s very likely that the Gun Devil will be getting stronger as the fight progresses, allowing it to take the edge in AP. Additionally, the Gun Devil has its own form of immortality in the form of its reincarnation cycle between Hell and Earth. There’s not really a clear time frame given for the reincarnation, so it's far from reliable, but it should theoretically allow it to come back from almost anything in the Wither Storm’s kit. Additionally, its regeneration and inherent resistance to the Zombie Devil’s corruption should let it resist the Wither Sickness, at least for a while, and most importantly, its ability to possess corpses could arguably let it take control of the Wither Storm, as it is an undead being and a literal skeleton, much like a corpse. For further proof, we see that victims possessed by the Gun Devil are still conscious, just trapped in some kind of dream world, meaning that the Gun Devil could very well possess the Wither Storm even if it’s technically conscious.

Now, despite all these advantages, it’s time for me to pull the rug from under you and reveal that the Wither Storm has counters to ALL OF IT.

While the Gun Devil certainly has a significant range advantage, it's not like it's completely safe. The Wither Storm’s gravitational force can lift its own body off the ground, which weighs 4.5613711e+14 kg, compared to the Gun Devil’s weight of 19,194,920 kg, or 95,974,600 kg for a theoretical 100% Gun Devil. This would make the Wither Storm 23,763,428.553 times heavier than the Gun Devil, 4,752,685.71059 times heavier than the 100% Gun Devil. This means that if the Gun Devil is tagged by a single tractor beam, or simply gets too close, it won’t be able to escape and will be dragged into it. While the Gun Devil can use its superior speed to avoid them, it can only dodge for so long, and it gets worse when you consider that any pieces blown off the Wither Storm will simply form into its own mini-Wither Storm that acts independent of the original. Overtime, this can add up, meaning the Gun Devil will be forced to fight more and more Wither Storms, all of which it would have to avoid or risk being pulled into, and here’s where the biggest factor comes into play: the Wither Storm’s absorption. Much like how the Gun Devil will be getting stronger through the fight as fear for it increases, the Wither Storm will be growing in power the more of the planet it absorbs. Not only that, but due to the absorption being able to bypass a material’s durability, it means that being absorbed by either the main Wither Storm or any of the smaller variants will be an instant loss, no matter how tough the Gun Devil is. This also means that any bullets fired at the Wither Storm will only help it in the long run, as they’ll simply be absorbed and incorporated into itself, making it more powerful. And while the Gun Devil can theoretically reincarnate from most of the Wither Storm’s abilities, it’s unlikely the same applies to the Storm’s absorption, as its victims aren’t technically dead. They’re functionally dead, being basically turned into withered statues, but since they’re shown to come back to life once removed from the Wither Storm, it means that they’re not truly dead, more just incapacitated. This means that the Gun Devil would likely be unable to reincarnate from the Wither Storm’s absorption, as it would simply be trapped within its body for the rest of eternity. Following this, while the Gun Devil could likely resist the Wither Sickness for a while, it’s unlikely it’s completely immune, due it differing in nature and function from the Zombie Devil’s corruption, so the Wither Sickness will likely affect it after long enough. Remember, the Wither Sickness worsens the more a person is exposed to the Wither Storm, and a single minutes long interaction with it incapacitated a fully healthy individual within a day, so, with constant exposure to the Wither Storm throughout the entire, very drawn out fight, the Gun Devil would be slowly weakened by the Wither Sickness’ effect. Sure, it would take a damn long while, but these two have nothing but time; in such an extreme battle of attrition, factors like these are a big deal in the long run.

I saved the best for last, so let's discuss the Gun Devil’s main (and only) wincon, possession. While it may seem at first glance that the Gun Devil’s possession would be a clear cut way to take the win, the Wither Storm has a lot of options to fight it off. Firstly, possession is something that devils only resort to when they are at death’s door. For instance, Makima had to lethally wound the Gun Devil to the point it couldn’t regenerate to force it into Aki’s body, and against someone just as powerful as it with every intent to kill it, it would be very unlikely that it could pull this off before dying. Secondly, the Gun Devil needs to make physical contact with a target to possess them, which would be extremely dangerous right off the bat due to the Wither Storm’s absorption and passive telekinesis, which would pull it in the moment it got close. The Gun Devil would need to possess the Wither Storm before it was absorbed and died, and while this is technically possible with its superior speed, this is still an extremely risky play. Thirdly, it’s unlikely that devils can possess inorganic beings, otherwise, we would see devils possessing random rocks on the street; this is a significant limitation against the Wither Storm, since its “body” is really just a massive shell of absorbed blocks surrounding its true body to protect it. Since like 99% of absorbed matter is inorganic pieces of the ground or infrastructure, and most organic beings it absorbs are trapped in the inside of its body, this would make it absurdly difficult for the Gun Devil to actually pull off the possession, as it would need to find a way inside the Wither Storm’s body and find its true body somewhere inside, and considering the Wither Storm can form limbs and heads within itself to attack intruders, the chances of it making it out alive are very unlikely. Finally, assuming the Gun Devil, in critical condition, somehow managed to reach the inside of the Wither Storm’s body, avoided the inner defenses, found its main body, and possessed it, the Wither Storm has been shown to resist being controlled by others, such as Ivor, and its own resistance to its Wither Sickness would mean that it could likely escape the dream reality of the Gun Devil and fight it off, either through creating more heads to absorb or blow up the Gun Devil, or having the other Wither Storms attack it (this would also work even if the Wither Storm was possessed as the mini-Wither Storms are shown to operate independently of the main body.) All of these factors combined make it nigh-impossible for the Gun Devil’s possession to be a consistent way to put down the Wither Storm, leaving it with no real way to actually kill or incapacitate it.

Overall, the Gun Devil may possess a large set of abilities that might allow it to take the edge on paper, but the Wither Storm has counters or options against all of them, while the Gun Devil lacks good options to actually put down the Wither Storm for good.

Tertiary Factors

This is thankfully a lot more clear cut (lie).

The Gun Devil is the only one of the two with, like, actual intelligence. It’s been shown to be capable of speech and making deals with humans for its own benefit, making it highly-intelligent. The Wither Storm, on the other hand, is the definition of “no thoughts, head empty.” It’s never been shown being able to think in any meaningful way, and seems to operate more like a machine, simply following its programming and Wither nature to destroy everything, so it won’t be pulling out any form of strategy, and will mostly just be launching attacks wildly while attempting to eat everything around it.

The Gun Devil has also shown much more experience, being around for years ever since its original attack and being shown to fight different devils, while the Wither Storm was genuinely only around for a couple of days at most, and while neither is really an expert at this, the Gun Devil has been shown to be able to fight against someone just as strong as it (that being Makima, albeit it lost), which shows it has a bit more experience in this department, as the Wither Storm never really fights an entity on its level.

Despite these advantages, the Wither Storm still has some of its own.

The Wither Storm being an undead being and gaining power from the Command Block means that it’s never been shown to get tired, or require any type of nourishment to survive, being able to rampage and destroy all in its way days on end. On the other hand, the Gun Devil hasn’t really been shown fighting for any extended period of time. Its rampage across the world lasted a mere 5 minutes, and we only saw a couple of seconds with its fight with Makima, so we don’t have a clear idea on how long it can continue fighting for, likely giving the Wither Storm superior endurance.

More importantly, while both can get stronger over time, the Gun Devil’s power relies on humanity, and while killing them will increase their fear of it, as more of them die, the less people will be alive to fear it, and the weaker it will become. Considering the absurdly aggressive and destructive nature of both, especially the Wither Storm’s constant growth, it’s likely that humans will be slowly killed as the fight progresses, weakening the Gun Devil. On the flipside, the Wither Storm doesn’t have this sort of weakness and can keep getting stronger as it continues to absorb the planet.

There’s also the fact that the Wither Storm possesses no blood, meaning that the Gun Devil will have a harder time healing over the span of a long fight, and while it could go and get more blood from humans, that would just deplete the human population even further, slowly weakening, etc etc.

Oh, and like, you know it’s gonna run out of bullets eventually, right?

Overall, both have their own set of advantages in this category, so I’ll say that Tertiary Factors is a draw.

Conclusion

This match is shockingly complex, and there’s a lot of arguments that can be made in the Gun Devil’s favor, but as things stand, the Wither Storm holds the overall edge here in this clusterfuck of a fight.

With its similar, albeit more reliable regeneration, ever-looming Wither Sickness, tractor beams and telekinesis forcing the Gun Devil on the backfoot, constantly growing army of itself, matching AP and growth, less reliance on outside sources like humans, impenetrable Command Block making it borderline unkillable, physiology better suited for a long-term fight, absorption serving as a one-shot option that likewise counters the Gun Devil’s regeneration, immortality, and bullet spam, and its long list of options against the Gun Devil’s only wincon, the Wither Storm simply has just about every option it needs to take the win here.

Hope this take doesn’t cause a shitstorm, cause in the end, the Gun Devil missed its shot.

The winner is The Wither Storm.

Toxin T Taker

I never expected to ever be on a Chainsaw Man blog or a Minecraft blog but look at me now. Hey y’all, it feels good to be writing a verdict once again, especially for a matchup so unfathomably peak that it left me in tears. It’s true! Ask Normal for the full story (don’t). As usual, I’ll be splitting my verdict into multiple sections and I’ll try my best to break down this surprisingly complex matchup.

Intelligence and Experience

The Wither Storm is stupid to be frank.

Harsh I know, but we’re talking about a creature that’s only existed for a couple days, never picked on enemies its own size, and is overall a being literally incapable of thought. Meanwhile you’re comparing it to the Gun Devil, which while it is also not the smartest of monsters, it’s actually shown some decent intelligence all things considered. The Gun Devil has been able to comprehend the English language, fought someone on its level when it fought Makima while it was weakened, and the Gun Devil has been around much for much longer with plenty of fighting experience to its name. It’s clear that the Gun Devil is naturally a lot smarter than the Wither Storm could ever be as the Wither Storm’s only set goal in mind is that of following Gabriel’s amulet as programmed by Ivor along with its natural urge to destroy everything in its path. The Wither Storm doesn’t even have the best senses given that it can only see with its tractor beams and feel around with its tentacles.

I think it’s clear that both intelligence and experience go to the Gun Devil here.

Stats

The stats given for this matchup isn’t concrete all things considered. There are a lot of low and especially a lot of high ends we could use for both so let’s try to tackle this as best as we can.

Starting off with strength and durability, the Wither Storm can get as high as 32.99 Megatons as seen when it absorbed all of Beacontown, and it can possibly get as high as 1.25 Gigatons to 5.2 Teratons if you were to believe in the “mountain of TNT” statement. However I personally don’t think the statement is applicable given that it is more of a hyperbole than anything given the context of the scene. Meanwhile the highest we can put the Gun Devil at is 47.3 Megatons which is what was calculated for the kinetic energy of 20% Gun Devil moving at super fast speeds. Unlike the Wither Storm however, the Gun Devil has a more reliable way to boost its power as we can multiply the power by 5 times to represent a lowball of the 100% Gun Devil’s kinetic energy, putting it 107 Megatons of TNT. In case you’re wondering about the supposed Wither Storm planet-level scaling via the many, MANY statements of it being able to destroy the world, it’s never specified that it could destroy the entire world in one blow. Rather, it seems like every one of these statements is either referring to society being destroyed as a whole by the Wither Storm’s rampage or the Wither Storm could destroy the SURFACE of the world at best (which is still very much a stretch). With all that being said, we’re comparing a city-level Wither Storm to a mountain to island level Gun Devil, which in most cases means that Gun Devil should take AP right? Well there’s just one problem with that.

There’s this pesky little thing called a command block that is the only obstacle in the way of the Gun Devil killing the Wither Storm for good. The Gun Devil may be able to destroy the outside of the Wither Storm but it’d be unable to do any damage on the actual thing that powers the Wither Storm since the command block has a durability of 102.9 Zettatons of TNT. The Wither Storm itself can’t actually scale to this in AP since it doesn’t use the command block but this would absolutely scale to the command block’s durability, and since the Wither Storm cannot be defeated without destroying the command block that holds it together, the Gun Devil has no solid way to put it down through power alone. This isn’t even considering the fact that the Wither Storm itself constantly grows in power the more it consumes, meaning that it can very well close the original stat gap given enough time.

Now as for speed, it’s a much simpler story compared to what I just wrote. Low ends for both put Gun Devil at a bigger advantage and higher ends can really vary depending on what you buy. The Gun Devil can get as high as Mach 635 via it racing around the world in a short time frame and the Wither Storm can get as high as Mach 22.94 by scaling above Jesse’s feat of outrunning a Creeper explosion. There are arguments to be made with relativistic speed due to Jesse dodging Guardian lasers but it’s more of a stretch than anything, especially since Guardian lasers don’t act like normal lasers.

Even though the Gun Devil has the speed advantage, it ultimately doesn’t matter that the Gun Devil has no way to put down the Wither Storm, meaning that stats should go to Wither Storm.

Arsenal

I’ve saved this section for last because this is definitely the most complicated aspect of Gun Devil vs Wither Storm. There’s a lot of possible interactions between the two that can be interpreted from their wide array of powers that they have at their filthy little monster hands.

For starters, it’s important to clarify what they can both do simply by being the certain species that they are. They’re both able to regenerate from anything that they throw at the other, with their levels of regeneration going as far as regenerating them from huge injuries and continuing to survive even when broken down into splatters of blood (or blocks in the Wither Storm’s case). The Gun Devil is able to resurrect itself via the Hell cycle while the Wither Storm can constantly grow the more it absorbs. The Gun Devil can likewise grow in power as the fight goes on since all it needs is fear aimed towards it in order to grow stronger and stronger.

General species abilities aside, they can both cover great amounts of distance by flying and they cause absolute destruction simply by moving from point A to point B. In terms of unique powers, the Gun Devil excels at keeping a distance by using the many guns on its body to shoot powerful bullets that cover hundreds of kilometers in an instant, and every bullets is shot with great precision due to the Gun Devil’s ability activation. Meanwhile, the Wither Storm has many more options to attack at a short distance, using things such as its tentacles, short-ranged telekinesis, and its explosive skulls to cause tons of damage before it pulls its prey in with its strong tractor beams. We’re not done yet with the list as the Wither Storm is able to merge into its surroundings, duplicate itself if its damaged, and absorb anything it sucks up with its beams. Have I even mentioned the deadly Wither Sickness that can be applied to beings that get stuck in said tractor beams for a few seconds? In terms of the sheer quantity of abilities, the Wither Storm has the Gun Devil beat.

Now of course, quantity doesn’t always guarantee a win if the Gun Devil can resist everything I just mentioned so let’s take a look at that. The regeneration of the Gun Devil alongside its resistance to the Zombie Devil’s ability would mean that the Wither Sickness wouldn’t be as effective on it for a long time. A lot of the attacks mentioned wouldn’t affect the Gun Devil immediately given that it’s most adept at fighting at a range, meaning that the tentacles, tractor beams, and telekinesis have no use initially. Explosive skills wouldn’t matter much here given that Gun Devil could easily regenerate from its impact, and speaking of, its cycle of reincarnation between Hell and Earth would make sure that the Gun Devil could always come back into the fight even if it’s uncertain how long the process takes. Unfortunately for the Gun Devil, there are still a lot of things it has no answers to.

For one, the Gun Devil needs BLOOD in order to properly regenerate, so without any blood in sight, it’ll never be able to recover from those injuries. Even with its potential resistance to the Wither Sickness at first, it’ll only get worse the longer they fight, and since the tractor beams should scale to how much strength the Wither Storm uses to move itself around, it should be able to overpower the Gun Devil once it’s caught in the tractor beam, leaving it with no way out of its grasp. Of course, the Gun Devil could always just outspeed the Wither Storm and keep a safe distance but it can only keep it up for so long, especially when any big damage the Gun Devil makes on the main body will not only be regenerated but also turned into many more Wither Storms that will eventually overwhelm the Gun Devil.

Once the Gun Devil is in the Wither Storm’s grasp, it’ll have no answer to the Wither Storm’s absorption. While you may think that it would simply kill the devil which will let it reincarnate, it’s more complicated than that. This absorption bypasses conventional durability and puts its victims in a state of incapacitation, trapping them for life as a part of the Wither Storm’s body, meaning that they’ll never be able to die or live once they’re stuck there. Without any way for the Gun Devil to die, it’ll just be forced to “live” inside of the Gun Devil’s body forever and ever.

You might be about thinking one final thing that I failed to mention about the Gun Devil and that would be its ability to possess. The Gun Devil should technically be able to possess the Wither Storm due to its undead nature but the two main problems with this are that the Gun Devil shouldn’t be able to possess the Wither Storm due its mainly inorganic nature and the Wither Storm’s own ability to resist being controlled. There’s also the fact that devils only possess as a last resort and it would need to possess the Wither Storm before it becomes absorbed, leading to an unlikely scenario where the Gun Devil could successfully possess it. If anything, its attempt at possessing the Wither Storm would only prolong the inevitable as it becomes the Wither Storm’s next prey.

There are so many other weaknesses I’ve yet to elaborate on such as the fact that the killing of millions of people would end up weakening the Gun Devil’s fear-based strength or how the Gun Devil would run out of bullets given that it’s pulling them from its own skin but I think you get the idea by now. The arsenal category should go to the Wither Storm.

Conclusion

Fun fact for y’all, I wrote half of my verdict at almost 2 in the morning because I’m an absolute lunatic. I don’t regret my decisions given how peak this matchup is as a whole. Best for both I fear.

Oh right the conclusion.

Well I think it’s obvious by now but although the Gun Devil put up enough of a fight to leave us shaking in our boots, the Wither Storm’s sheer strength, monstrous abilities, and numerous counters to everything the devil can throw at it ultimately deems our winner here. The winner is the Wither Storm.

NikPaul19

Hello hi it’s me Nik this is the first time I’m working on a blog that isn’t my own and it was fun to see how this came together especially considering the matchup.

Stats

On paper, stats seemed mostly in the favor of the Gun Devil. On its own high ends as well as with scaling to the Typhoon Devil, the Gun Devil ended up being decently stronger than the Wither Storm. Along with having way better speed feat, barring Jesse’s laser dodging feat, it would’ve looked like an easy stat win for the Gun Devil. However, it wasn’t as simple as that. First off, with how the Wither Storm constantly grows as it eats the world, its strength will constantly increase with it. Not to mention, the Gun Devil genuinely has no way to damage the Command Block. Even as it tears through the Wither Storm’s body, it’d still have to destroy the Command Block to actually kill it, and with the statements of TNT not affecting it as well as the constant growth of the Wither Storm’s body and the power of the Command Block, it’s safe to say that the Wither Storm would take stats, at least given enough time.

Arsenal and Abilities

Starting off, these two have their own methods of regeneration. While both are effective, in a fight like this the Wither Storm’s would seem to be a lot more useful than the Gun Devil’s as the Wither Storm’s regen comes from consuming the surrounding area while the Gun Devil’s regen is based on blood. Here, it would appear to be much easier for the Wither Storm to access its own regen than it would be for the Gun Devil. Not to mention it would make it easier for the Wither Storm to recover from attacks which would also make it easier to protect the Command Block.

Now that’s only the simple side of the debate. For the rest, I say it boils down to a few things. To start, the Gun Devil does have insanely better AOE via its guns, allowing it to keep its distance from the Wither Storm. Along with that, its immortality does make it really hard for the Wither Storm to put down the Gun Devil for good. However, not only is the Wither Storm also nearly impossible to take down for good, but if the Gun Devil were to shoot chunks of it off it would end up creating even more Wither Storms for the Gun Devil to deal with. There is also the Wither Sickness that the Wither Storm could inflict on the Gun Devil. While it would take a while to come into effect, it would eventually start to hurt the Gun Devil.

While all this sounds good, there is still one question: how does either kill the other? Starting with the Gun Devil, one of its wincons is its ability to possess others. However, this is not a very reliable solution. The Gun Devil was only able to possess Aki after he died, and this was also after the Gun Devil itself was about to die. If it were to go for this, it’d have to already be dying. However, this still wouldn’t work on the Wither Storm as it is not an organic being. As for the Wither Storm, its form of taking down the Gun Devil is absorption. As stated before, as the fight goes on the Wither Storm would grow in size along with its clones. With this, it would get to the point where the Wither Storm or one of its clones could end up absorbing the Gun Devil itself. With this, absorption also has been shown to bypass a material’s defences such as with Bedrock. So, there’s no reason to say why this wouldn’t be able to take down the Gun Devil.

Tertiary Factors

To put it simply, the Gun Devil can think while the Wither Storm cannot.

Conclusion

This fight had a surprising amount of layers to it, but when it came down to it, the Wither Storm has more reliable advantages. With better durability, regeneration, and a more reliable way to permanently kill the Gun Devil, it seems that the Wither Storm was able to bring an end to one of the strongest devils in history, wither without its overwhelming fear. I'm so sorry

Summary

The Gun Devil

“No one in their right mind would be out to kill the damn Gun”

Advantages

  • Comparable in AP with most ends.

  • Can get stronger over time…

  • Faster without the relativistic end.

  • Way smarter, more experienced and more skilled.

  • Could potentially possess The Wither Storm with certain interpretations.

  • Can likely resist Wither Sickness for an extended period of time…

  • Can keep its distance with its better range…

  • Would eventually return from Hell upon death…

  • Holy shit that design!

Disadvantages

  • Lacks a way to destroy the Command Block.

  • No way to destroy the smaller Wither Storms, potentially overwhelming it.

  • …but if too many people die, it will get weaker.

  • Would have a harder time regenerating without blood.

  • …but it would eventually affect it.

  • …but it’s likely to get tired or run out of bullets first.

  • …but Absorption might not count as true death, bypassing this.

  • Lack of screen time.

  • Got jumped lmao

 The Wither Storm

“Magnus and Ellegaard may think they can stop me, that they can destroy the Wither Storm… But they are mistaken, and it will cost them their lives”

Advantages

  • Comparable in AP with most ends.

  • Can get stronger over time.

  • Potentially stronger and faster with debatable ends…

  • Absorption counters regeneration and potentially reincarnation.

  • Has ways to fight off or prevent possession.

  • As the Wither Storm grows, there will be fewer people to fear the Gun Devil.

  • Has an easier time regenerating.

  • Command Block’s durability makes it insanely hard to kill.

  • Tearing it apart would just create more Wither Storms.

  • The Wither Sickness will wear down the Gun Devil over time…

  • Physiology is better suited for a drawn-out fight.

  • Best MCSM villain tbh

  • Peak theme.

Disadvantages

  • …though these are, you know, debatable.

  • Much slower with reliable ends.

  • Its physical body is less durable than the Command Block.

  • Not much smarter than a rock.

  • Much less experience.

  • …but its regeneration would slow it down significantly.

  • Killed Reuben.

  • Didn’t kill Lucas.
