“Every boy deserves to believe his father is good, but if each father were good, we’d be living in a different kind of world.” – Jonathan Escoffery
Evil Emperor Zurg, The Tyrant of Planet Z from the world of Pixar
Lord Garmadon, The Lord of Destruction from Ninjago
Not every hero comes from a lineage of good, but those who steer away from their expectations are the most compelling. These fathers are not toying around, drawing from a dark lord in a Galaxy far, far away; their thirst for power cannot be quenched unless they achieve total domination. Their Ultimate Evil is the only way this world can exist. Will Garmadon destroy the dictator of Planet Z, or should Ninjago’s rightful ruler prepare to die at Zurg’s hand? Find out in this dastardly DEATH BATTLE!
Before we begin…
This will be compositing Zurg; however, only the versions of him that are not toys. This excludes his appearances in The Following: The Toy Story Movies (excluding the video game scene), The Toybox in The Toy Story 3 Video Game, Disney Infinity, and anything related to Kingdom Hearts (even though he doesn't appear in that). While we are including his direct crossover content (notably Mirrorverse), we will be discussing the legitimacy of its inclusion or reliability in the debate.
For Garmadon, we will be looking at basically all canon Ninjago media, excluding what surrounds the Lego Ninjago movie, as that is a different incarnation of the character. We will also be briefly looking at Lego Chima. Ninjago is privy to many Author statements that will be considered basically only when no other information is available. Mainly statements around sizes and canonicity as well as clarification on certain things
This is a no-holds-barred fight; both are given full access to their arsenals, armies, and allies, regardless of whether they would be considered standard.
This fight will be set with Zurg’s forces invading Ninjago. Because some of Zurg’s stuff is bound to Planet Z, we will be assuming that the planet Ninjago is on and Planet Z both exist within the same galaxy.
While it should technically be doable within our established rules, we will be excluding The Overlord's Possession of Garmadon as a form, as it’s really just an entirely different character. It would be wildly out of character and basically impossible for Garmadon to have Overlord do this again, even if the situation somehow arose in this fight. We will be including the equipment surrounding Overlord, such as the Stone Army, as they can coexist with Garmadon as an actual character. We will also be excluding the brief form of Garmadon as an Anacondrai for similar reasons.

Background
Zurg
“You’ve failed Lightyear. With that final blast, I have enslaved every free world in the Galactic Alliance. Wherever you go in the universe, you will hear my voice mocking you. Evil Rules!”
Zurg’s origin is shrouded in vagueness. Seemingly born an evil genius, just like his Nana Zurg, he rose to power on Planet Z and became its tyrannical dictator. Ruling the Grubs and Brain Pods with overwhelming force, he works to rule the universe and to destroy the Galactic Alliance, Star Command, and his sworn enemy, Buzz Lightyear. Zurg’s many evil plans would have let him conquer the galaxy had it not been for Lightyear, their bitter rivalry never wavering. Again and again, foiling Zurg’s evil plans and outwitting the evil emperor. Zurg has spent years assembling an arsenal to take down his enemies, ranging from Doofenshmirtz-level inventions to lethal weapons to some of the most dangerous criminals in the Galaxy
Despite what Toy Story 2 would lead you to believe, Zurg is not Buzz’s father in most of the media he appears in; his relation to Buzz is wildly inconsistent across his variations, ranging from no relation to being an alternate version of Buzz himself.
In Lightyear, Zurg came into being when after stealing a ship and successfully achieve lightspeed, Buzz was arrested for his crimes, but later built and army of Zyclops and travelled back in time, preventing himself from being arrested and fighting a young version of himself who had more properly synthesized Lightspeed Fuel which he can use to Time Travel? Shit is confusing.
Garmadon
“Long before time had a name, the First Spinjitzu Master created Ninjago using four elemental weapons. But when he passed, a dark presence sought out to collect them all: Lord Garmadon.”
The firstborn of the First Spinjitzu Master, Garmadon, began as a young child training at the Monastery of Spinjitzu. One day, however, he wandered too far into the forest with his brother Wu and encountered the female Serpentine Aspheera, who desperately coveted the Spinjitzu martial art. Wary, Garmadon attempted to convince his brother to back away, but was ultimately unsuccessful and coerced into teaching the art. This was only the beginning of Garmadon’s rift with Wu, as another pivotal moment in Garmadon’s life was his encounter with a juvenile Great Devourer, who injected the boy with its deadly poison and warped his mind, beginning his path to evil.
It wasn’t all bad, as he did help the other elemental masters seal away the evil of the time twins Acronix and Krux, and even found love and fathered a child (by stealing a love letter from Wu, but ignore that), but sadly, it wasn’t meant to last. Garmadon coveted the golden weapons, the greatest power in Ninjago, and this would cause the final splinter in the relationship between brothers. A fierce battle ensued, with Garmadon ultimately losing and being cast into the underworld. There, he used his dark Spinjitzu arts to take command of the skeletons and began his crusade to take over Ninjago.
However, one thorn nagged at Garmadon’s side: the revelation of a prophecy involving the legendary green ninja, destined to confront the lord of darkness in an epic final duel to determine the fate of all creation. And of course, who else could it be but his beloved son?
This would result in a series of plans throughout the years, including travelling to the realm of madness to unlock the power to wield all 4 golden weapons, merging them into the powerful Mega Weapon, taking command of the stone army to sow evil, and more. Even when the evil influence was purged from his body, Garmadon’s past sins with Master Chen continued to haunt him, ultimately forcing the sensei to make a sacrifice that trapped him in the cursed realm, and then killed again when the preeminent cursed realm drowned.
This was not the end for Garmadon, as he was resurrected once more by his “sons”, ultimately taking command of Ninjago City with an iron fist and a dark heart, even besting his son in one-on-one combat. But, using the silent fist art taught by Garmadon himself, Lloyd struck back and took down his father again, locking him away…just in time for the Oni to begin their crusade to drape the realms in shadow. Yet again, good and evil lay in conflict within Garmadon’s heart, but he ultimately chose the path of saving the realms, forming the tornado of creation alongside his former hated enemies to stop the Omega and the Oni Horde.
Lost on what to do, Garmadon wandered Ninjago city, ultimately taking up residence in the home of the only civilian who would see past the dark lord’s harsh exterior: a simple Ninjago news cameraman. Growing accustomed to civilian life, Garmadon even adopted a plant he christened…Christophern.
For a time, he was at peace, but he eventually foresaw the return of the Overlord and set cryptic messages to his son and brother advertising the conquest. Understandably, they hesitated to trust the former sensei, but a few teaching sessions and harsh jabs later, Lloyd eventually opened up to his father’s wisdom, even unlocking Garmadon’s legendary oni form temporarily, as the two worked together to take down the Overlord’s ultimate crystalline form, saving the land yet again.
While Garmadon has yet to make a reappearance in the merged lands of modern day, a warrior of his talents cannot be put down so easily. If Ninjago is in danger of falling once again to darkness, Lord Garmadon will step up to halt evil in its tracks, in the only way he knows how: overpowering force and sharp wit.
Skill & Experience
Zurg
Zurg is a cunning, evil genius who tends to get in his own way even if he is capable of great feats of skill and intelligence. Zurg has served as a consistent threat to Star Command and the safety of the galaxy, and commands a massive quantity of resources as the dictator of planet Z. His Brain Pods can create a great number of complex gadgets capable of controlling bodies, teleporting planets to other dimensions, and dominating the minds of the entire universe, the latter of which was Zurg’s very own plan. Zurg's most impressive feat of Intelligence was perhaps when he lured Buzz Lightyear into a black hole, and then made Buzz think he had experienced Time Dilation before Truman-Showing him 1000 years into the future, and using this to make Buzz give up Star Command Secrets under the guise of teaching history.
Zurg can often keep pace in combat with Buzz Lightyear, who is the greatest hero in the galaxy. Zurg is a great shot with his firearms and seemingly has some martial arts training, while knowing the basics of sword fighting. Zurg fights dirty and will throw out obscenities if it means he can gain the upper hand.
Garmadon
Garmadon is thousands of years old and one of the most powerful and skilled warriors
in the 16 realms. He has gone toe to toe with all manner of foes, ranging from Serpentine to The Oni to The Overlord. He has fairly easily defeated all 7 Ninja at once (Lloyd, Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane, Nya, and PIXAL) using just a sword. He has also taken on entire armies solo and performed very well, such as the Serpentine or the Crystal King’s warriors.
Garmadon is proficient with nearly all forms of weaponry, Swords, Staves, Nunchucks, Hammers, Shurikens, Scythes, Daggers, and more, but his martial arts capabilities dwarf his skill with a weapon. As the son of the First Spinjitzu Master, he likely has millennia of experience with the art, which he has used to effortlessly defeat even the lord of the Underworld, Samukai. His own original technique, the Art of the Silent Fist, allows his to defeat some of the strongest characters in Ninjago without throwing a single strike, using their own strength against them, such as Kuma, an enormous bear as strong and as old as the forest, or Golden Master Lloyd, who at the time was the uncontested strongest character in Ninjago.
Garmadon’s Skill and Experience are much of what defines his capabilities and allows him to remain consistently one of the greatest threats to Ninjago.
Equipment
Zurg
Ion Blaster
Zurg’s primary weapon, despite looking fairly ordinary, the Ion Blaster packs quite a punch and can do a far greater variety of things than you'd expect
Ion Blasts: Glowing yellow projectiles that Zurg can fire rapidly and at high speeds. They reflect off surfaces like metal. Zurg can fire these blasts at an absurdly fast speed
Ion Blasts (But Purple): In Zurg’s Toy Story 3 Boss Fight, he fires slow-moving, purple Energy Blasts from his Ion Blaster
Ion Blasts (But Green): Not entirely sure these are any different from normal Ion Blasts
Missiles: In Zurg’s Toy Story 3 Boss Fight, he fires bursts of missiles from his Ion Blaster
Ion Blast Shotgun: In Zurg’s Buzz Lightyear of Star Command Boss Fight, he can fire Ion Blasts with a large spread or 3 at once
Rocket Boots
Zurg wears a pair of rocket boots that he uses to float and fly around. He got them on sale!
Transforming Hands
Zurg is able to transform his hands into weapons; his right hand becomes a machine gun, while his left hand fires blasts of energy.
Heat Ray
Self-explanatory, a gun used to heat things up to extreme temperatures. It was relevant at the time because he needed extreme heat to turn broccoli into monsters.
Floating Throne
Occasionally, Zurg will fly around on his throne, despite having the ability to fly by himself. It must be more comfortable.
Cameras
Zurg has seemingly complete surveillance of the entire galaxy, being able to tune in and witness any events and mishaps that may be happening.
Forcefield Platform
In Zurg’s Toy Story 3 boss fight, Zurg uses a platform that generates a force field to defend himself. While impenetrable to Buzz’s attacks, the crystal that powers it is exposed. A similar platform is featured in “Disneyland Adventures” but has an external power source
Mines
Zurg deployed a bunch of floating mines around his base to protect himself from intruders. Similar mines are also featured in The Star Command Video Game
Plasma Bomb
A plantable explosive capable of destroying entire space stations
Neural Disruptor
A weapon mounted on the inside of Zurg’s ship. It incapacitated Buzz with a single shot
Sunglasses
Zurg has a sick set of shades that he puts on when firing the Zurgatronic Megaray
Brain Modules
As a condition of their surrender to Zurg, all new citizens of his empire were to be outfitted with brain modules and forced into gruelling labour
Devolving Gas
Packed into a small smoke bomb, this gas reverts the affected back hundreds of generations into one of their ancient Ancestors. Zurg, at one point, had enough gas to Devolve the entire Galaxy. Zurg, of course, also has an Antidote.
Bubble of Torment
A bubble Zurg uses to punish the failures of his minions and foes. Generates shocks of electricity to the victim
Crystollic Self-Perpetuating Breather Construction Core
A bomb like device that, when dropped on a town, immediately converts into a base for Zurg and allows him to enslave the residents.
Computer Virus
Zurg introduced a computer virus to a military base of robots that gives them typical cold and flu symptoms
Matter Transporter
An experimental piece of technology, Zurg stole from Star Command, allows him to teleport his hornets anywhere in the Galaxy or to teleport his enemies to him. Seemingly works at intergalactic ranges, even though at first it needed to hit people with a beam. Zurg could teleport someone to the edge of the galaxy with it, but won’t for some reason.
Hyper-Deathray!!!
The Hyper-Deathray! Is a powerful weapon Zurg was going to use to reduce Star Command to little more than dust.
Zurgatronic Megaray
Powered by a corrupted Uni-Mind, this superweapon is designed to allow Zurg to control “every innocent in the Galactic Alliance.”, which is shown to work almost immediately, effectively syncing the minds of entire planets with Zurg. He used this to control everyone in the universe except for Buzz and Friends.
“Planet Destroyer”
This large superweapon was used by Zurg to seemingly annihilate entire planets; however, once Buzz and Friends were hit by a blast from it, it is revealed that it actually works by transporting targets to an alternate dimension. Zurg used this as a bluff to convince The Galactic Alliance to surrender, it is exceptionally unlikely this would be used in combat.
Green Winds of Change
A gas Zurg unleashed upon Buzz and Mira to turn them into useless piles of green, blobby flesh. This condition is contagious and will spread. Luckily, Zurg keeps an antidote around.
Cosmic Compactors
Originally designed as a trash compactor, these discs can compress just about anything to an incredibly small size, including an entire star.
Chrono-Disrupter
I shit you not, Zurg stole the device Santa Claus uses to stop time so he can deliver all the presents in one night. He uses this to steal Christmas and has shown to use it in combat. Given that it is used by Santa to deliver presents in one night, it should last at least 12 hours if Zurg chooses.
Calendarium
With Calendarium, Zurg made a machine that can physically change what day of the week it is, making every day a dreaded Monday. The point of this is of course, to screw over the internal clocks of Star Command's Computers.
Robot Suit (LY)
In Lightyear, Zurg uses a robotic suit to fight. This suit is armed with Zurg's classic Ion Blaster (Pictured above) and Extendable Chain Hands.
Garmadon
Katanas
Garmadon often fights with Katana-like swords, even doing so before he grew additional arms. With his extra arms, he typically fights with 4 at once.
Bo Staff
Like his father and brother, Garmadon is a capable wielder of a classic Bo Staff; his use of this was primarily limited to his times as ‘human’, and he tends to use sharper options more often than not.
Not-Golden Weapons
Garmadon has access to unextraordinary versions of the golden weapons that he can seemingly summon out of nowhere. He used these for a solid 30 seconds, and then they were never seen again
The Golden Weapons
The Golden Weapons are a set forged by The First Spinjitzu Master and used to create Ninjago. Garmadon briefly possessed the Golden Weapons before turning them into the Mega Weapon. When united, the Golden Weapons could create a vortex through space and time, allowing Garmadon to escape the underworld. He used the Golden Weapons to destroy the Great Devourer and rebuild a destroyed Destiny’s Bounty. The Weapons themselves are capable of turning into vehicles; however, Garmadon has never used them this way.
Sword of Fire: The Golden Weapon Kai used. It allows the user to shoot blasts of fire.
Scythe of Quakes: The Golden Weapon Cole used. It allows the user to create large tremors and split the ground open
Shurikens of Ice: The Golden Weapons Zane used. They allow the user to generate large ice structures and freeze enemies in place.
Nunchucks of Lightning: The Golden Weapon Jay used. They allow the user to electrocute foes with lightning.
The Mega Weapon
By taking the four weapons to the Golden Peaks, their original birthplace, Garmadon merged them all together into the “unstoppable” Mega Weapon. While undeniably powerful, the weapon’s weakness lies in its greatest boon: it can create nearly anything, but it cannot directly destroy. It also requires a heavy toll of stamina, usually resulting in a maximum of one wish per day (However, he seemed to resist this effect on his final use). Those lacking the power to wield the weapon are erased from existence when touching it.
Resurrection: Revived Captain Soto’s infamous pirate crew. Could bring back the Great Devourer
Cloning: Using the clothes of the ninja from aboard his ship, Garmadon created exact physical duplicates of the four elemental ninja, who could even replicate the powers of the ninja, with the twist of them being eeeevil.
Earth Manipulation: Created an enormous chasm that split open Ninjago in an attempt to stop the ninja from winning a race.
Time/Age Manipulation: Reverted The Ninja’s to children and brought a fossilised Grundle back to life.
Time Travel: Created a portal back to when the ninja first gathered the golden weapons in an attempt to change history
Helmet of Shadows
When originally removed from the Celestial Clock it began the countdown to the final battle between good and evil. The Helmet of Shadows allows Garmadon or whoever is wearing it to travel between the two islands in Ninjago and to Control the Stone Army (See Support)
Two Moon Tea
Two Moon Tea is a Magical Tea brewed from Glimwillow Lilies. It is capable of instantly healing injuries and bringing back lost powers. It boosts the powers of otherworldly beings tenfold, however, too much tea can cause the drinker to obtain more power than they can handle.
Mallet of Shattering
An Ancient weapon, that when used with The Gong of Shattering, allows an Elemental Master to shatter the goodness from their soul and perform Shatterspin. Garmadon, however, does not use it this way, and more or less just uses it as a hammer.
Time Blades
The Time Blades are a set of weapons forged to absorb the powers of Krux and Acronix. Upon absorbing their powers they gained certain abilities to manipulate time. Garmadon’s set specifically absorbed the ability to pause and reverse time. However even he believed the ability to control time was too powerful for anyone to possess and would not use these powers.
Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu
As a child Garmadon and Wu came into possession of one of their father’s most powerful artifacts, The Scrolls of Forbidden Spinjitzu. These scrolls, when held, grant an enormous power boost, unlocking one's true potential without any of the training or discipline. Other users of the scrolls have seen significant enhancements in the use of their elemental powers. They do have their drawbacks, they corrupt their user and will often make them attack anyone who may threaten to take their power.
Oni Masks
The Oni Masks are ancient relics created by the Oni Warlords, when equipped they grant the wearer extraordinary abilities, and when united can be used in a ritual to resurrect someone of Oni blood. Garmadon himself does not wear the masks, instead that falls to the Generals of The Sons of Garmadon.
Oni Mask of Vengeance: The Red Mask, when equipped the wearer sprouts an additional set of arms and gains the ability to nullify the effects of elemental powers and redirect their energy.
Oni Mask of Deception: The Orange Mask, when equipped the wearer gains telekinetic capabilities, allowing them to throw around anything or anyone they wish.
Oni Mask of Hatred: The Purple Mask, when equipped it covers the wearer in stone armour, which seems to significantly boost the strength and durability of the wearer, giving them a taste of invincibility.
Vehicles
Zurg
Zurg’s Dreadnought
This enormous ship is Zurg’s primary method of intergalactic travel. It hosts much of his army, as well as a smaller ship to take him to the surface of a planet. It is also armed with a large laser that can annihilate ships and a tractor beam that can lift chunks of buildings
Grande Hornet
A building-sized mech operated by Zurg and 3 Grubs. Armed with a circular saw, rockets, machine guns, a massive freeze ray, and Electro Coils that can shut down enemy mechs
Escape Pod
Mounted on the top of his evil lair, Zurg used this disc-shaped ship to escape from the invading NOS-4-A2 and XR.

A large Spaceship that Zurg uses as a home base to deploy his Zyclops. Features typical Spaceship things like artificial gravity and a self-destruct option.
Garmadon
Skulkin Vehicles
The Skullkin ride around in a variety of skull-themed vehicles, They seem capable of riding both on and off road and are quite loud and Obnoxious.

Skull Motorcycle: It is all in the name.
Turbo Shredder: A large, racecar-looking vehicle with treads instead of front wheels
Nuckal’s ATV: Sick ass off-road ATV
Skulkin Helicopter: A helicopter armed with a skeleton hand on a rope and skeleton missiles.
Serpentine Vehicles
When The Fangpyre bite a vehicle or similar piece of technology, it is morphed into a sort of living snake version of what was bitten. The Serpentine use these vehicles to transport themselves around and cause chaos.
Bite Cycles: Bite Cycles are small bike-like vehicles used and created by the Fangpyre from old motorcycles.
Fangpyre Trucks: Fangpyre Trucks are large trucks that were originally ordinary vehicles before being bitten by Fangpyre.
Fangpyre Wrecking Ball: A crane with a living wrecking ball, created by the Fangpyre when they bit a Crane.
Fangpyre Robot: A robot made when the Fangoyre bit a statue of Jay made from scrap metal.
Rattlercopter: The Rattlercopter is a helicopter created by the bite of the Fangpyre, much like the other Serpentine vehicles.
Serpentine Bus: Its a Bus, but Snakified
Serpentine Express: The Serpentine Express was a vehicle used by the Serpentine. Originally, it was a "Tour Ninjago" bus, but was infected by the Fangpyre bite, effectively transforming it into a heavily armed (and heavily armored) mobile fortress for the Serpentine's use.
Fangpyre Mech: A Snakelike Mech, that only appeared in a Lego Set
The Black Bounty
A dark recreation of The Destiny’s Bounty that previously served as a home for the Ninja. Garmadon rebuilt it using The Golden Weapons and housed his Serpentine followers in it. This Pirate Ship works in both sky and sea, sporting an extensive living quarters and the resources to monitor much of Ninjago.
Stone Army Vehicles
When Garmadon was in control of the The Stone Army he had them build a variety of vehicles to combat the Ninja.
Warrior Bikes: The primary vehicle used by warriors in the Stone Army. large bike-like vehicles with treads and armed with missile launchers.
Tusks: A heavy tank-like vehicle armed with 2 drills and great at ramming into things.
Hoppers: A Vehicle with 4 legends that have treads on the feet, features and array of saw blades.
Catapults: It's a Catapult
Samurai Mech
A large, 4 armed mech Garmadon briefly used to fight the Ninja. Armed with a massive sword and strong enough to lift up and throw around vehicles.
Garmatron
Garmatron was a ‘gift’ from the Overlord to Garmadon, this tank fires large shells of Dark Matter that can turn people into evil slaves to the Overlord. The Shells do have to be manually loaded. When Garmatron made it to Ninjago City it transformed into a skyscraper sized fortress that the Overlord used to spread his corruption.
SoG Bikes
Believe it or not, The Biker Gang has access to a significant amount of bikes. There’s nothing particularly interesting about these motorcycles.
Abilities
Zurg
Teleportation
Zurg is capable of teleporting himself away (seen above) and his Zurgbots to him, allowing for a speedy escape or some quick backup. He stole a device that works in a similar fashion.
Laser Eyes
As shown above, Zurg can go full Homelander and fire laser beams from his eyes at any unsuspecting friend or foe. He can also reduce paper to ash in an area of effect and melt machine guns.
Electricity Generation
Zurg can generate small balls of electricity from his fingertips, which seem to hurt quite a bit when he uses them to torture LGMs.
Corruption
With just the touch of his hand, Zurg managed to corrupt the Uni-Mind, the source of the LGM Hive-Mind, turning it from Good to Evil.
Disney Heroes: Battle Mode Abilities
Zurg is a playable villain in Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, which grants him a few abilities. This game works on an energy system for attacks, so much of his kit is inapplicable.
Ion Blaster: Zurg unleashes his ion blaster and fires it repeatedly until he runs out of energy
Zurg Fury: Zurg shouts, scaring enemies for 7 seconds. Scared enemies take twice as much fantastic damage from all sources.
Energy Heist: Zurg steals 60 energy from each enemy.
Evil Genius: Zurg gains 20 energy every time he damages, scares, or steals energy from an enemy.
Unparalleled Power: While Emperor Zurg is channelling "Ion Blaster", he deals 50% more damage per shot. This damage increases with each shot up to a maximum of 300% until he is interrupted.
Disney: Sorcerer’s Arena Abilities
Zurg is a playable villain in Disney: Sorcerer’s Arena, which grants him a few abilities
Evil Aim: Deals increased damage to enemies, the higher the health they have. up to 90%

Massive Ion Blast: High damage shot that hits multiple enemies.
Galactic Evil (Passive): 11% chance to increase strength by 50% anytime Zurg is hurt.
Resistances
Potential Tech Manipulation: When Nos-4A-2 invaded Planet Z and took over Zurg’s forces, he did not attempt to control Zurg despite him having technological equipment connected to his body.
Garmadon
Spinjitzu
The most famous martial art in all of Ninjago, Spinjitzu enables the user to rotate their body at immense speeds, which not only provides a significant power and speed boost, but even enables Garmadon to hover above the ground. Garmadon can use his Spinjitzu to lift up and disarm enemies, seemingly with just a thought
The Art of The Silent Fist
With the Art of the Silent Fist, Garmadon is able to effectively make his opponents fight themselves, weaving past attacks and using his opponent's strength against them. He used this to defeat Golden Master Lloyd with little effort. Even in his more savage Oni Form he used this effectively to defeat Kuma
Shatterspin
Garmadon is capable of using a rudimentary form of Shatterspin. Travelling to the Wyldness to obtain this incredibly powerful technique. While it typically requires a wolf mask and the Gong of Shattering, Garmadon uses just the basics, coiling up his body to unleash power strikes.
Catjitzu
A variant of Spinjitzu created by Nineko, a sorceress turned cat who had been taught Spinjitzu from The First Spinjitzu Master. This variant incorporates a variety of jumps and the like to let them climb mountains, and is designed to be more catlike.
Shadow/Illusion Creation
Even when bound to the Underworld, Garmadon was able to interact with Ninjago through the Shadows. He can create Illusions of people to manipulate them into doing his bidding or make these shadows straight up duplicate and throw hands. While these shadows are intangible, they can be hit by the Shadow of an attacker.
Storm/Electricity Creation
Garmadon has seemingly created storms on multiple occasions, calling down lightning and darkening skies. He doesn't use this to fight or anything, it's just to aura farm. He has also shown to be able to create small balls of electricity.
Element of Destruction
How exactly Garmadon has access to Destruction is a little unclear, with some sources saying it was The Devourers Bite that granted it, while his Oni Heritage is the obvious answer. Destruction is fuelled by fighting, with enough fighting seeming to increase Garmadon’s power. Garmadon’s mastery over Destruction bleeds greatly into his other abilities, however almost anything from before his resurrection isn't really referred to as such. This section mainly refers to things he is clearly shown doing in “Sons of Garmadon” onwards.
Destruction Blasts: Garmadon is capable of channeling his destruction into a variety of projectiles such as energy blasts
Forcefield Creation: Garmadon can create barriers to block attacks from foes
Weapon Creation: Garmadon is capable of conjuring a set of daggers made from Destruction
Fire Manipulation: Garmadon can create purple fire
Explosive Shockwaves: When Garmadon has fought enough he can unleash a massive explosion.
Telekinesis: Garmadon uses telekinesis quite liberally. He can lift enormous boulders, ragdoll people, choke people and even tear them apart limb by limb
Life Draining and Power Nullification: When Garmadon defeated Lloyd, his life force began to drain away and he was stripped of his elemental powers.
Element of Creation
Garmadon has shown a very limited application of Creation, which he has access to from his father, using it to build the Colossus and give it life.
Dark Magic
Upon the sentencing of the Anacondrai leaders, Garmadon cast a spell that banished them to the cursed realm by sucking them into a portal.
Sensing
Garmadon is capable of sensing/predicting future events that will bring great destruction. He did this with both the invasion of the Oni and the return of the Overlord. He is also capable of sensing the presence of other people, such as his brother Wu or his son Lloyd.
Resistances
Energy Draining: By his final use of the Mega Weapon, he seemed to be unaffected by its energy-draining properties
Magma Fire Manipulation: Tanked a blast of Magma from The Firstborn
Power Nullification: The Oni Form is immune to the Elemental Power nullifying effects of Vengestone. Even when Garmadon lost his power, he could simply regain it by fighting.
Precognition: As an Oni, presumably, Garmadon’s future cannot be seen by the Sword of Sanctuary
Petrification/Extreme Cold: Immune to the effects of the Oni’s Darkness, which turns people into statues and was described as the coldest thing Cole had ever felt
Mind/Biological Manipulation: Is capable of touching The Overlord/Crystal King’s Warriors, which turns people into mindless crystal zombies and presumably works similarly to his other mind-controlling powers.
Forms
Zurg
Lightyear Zurg
This Version of Zurg is actually Buzz Lightyear himself. In a stupid twist, The Timeline split and This Buzz was punished for stealing a ship. This Zurg is a fairly frail, old man and has to rely on a robot suit to fight, which is outlined in his equipment.
Zurg Prime
(From the Mirroverse Website) Stellar Magic has made lightspeed fuel so potent and volatile that it punches through the fabric of space-time itself, tearing open unpredictable time rifts! Through these rifts emerge Zurgs from across the multiverse, and they quickly start battling amongst themselves for supremacy and control of the fuel source. The Mirrorverse Zurg, no stranger to battle, soon establishes dominance. Harvesting weapons and armour from the fallen to add to his own arsenal, this Zurg Prime declares himself the supreme emperor of all time and space!
Each version of Zurg brought their universe’s best technology to battle, and Zurg Prime has access to it all! His fearsome armour is fused completely with spaceship technology assimilated from the many vanquished versions of himself.
Starship Cannons: Zurg Prime brings repurposed Starship Cannons into battle
Rapid Fire Disruptors: When firing multiple attacks continuously, Zurg Prime gains a 10% damage and a 30% defence boost
Tyrant's Grip: Zurg Prime can stop a target from moving for 8 seconds, while granting himself a 10-50% strength boost depending on his use of Rapid Fire Disruptors
Teleportation: Zurg Prime possesses site-to-site teleporters to keep himself at an ideal distance
Temporal Singularity: Zurg Prime can generate temporal distortions from his hand, destabilizing the very fabric of reality and crushing the Fractured with the gravity of a black hole.
Garmadon
Sensei Garmadon
When Garmadon was possessed by The Overlord and then defeated by his son, what was left was a man finally free from the evil that had plagued him since his youth. Lacking powers, Sensei Garmadon fights using his extensive martial arts experience with Spinjitzu and The Art of The Silent Fist.
Oni Form
The Oni Form is achieved when Garmadon embraces the Destruction of his heritage, granting him a new look, a set of wings, a staff, and an enormous increase in power. Garmadon and Mogra were seemingly comparable without any boosts, however after Mogra drank 5 cups of Two Moon Tea (Which Boost power by 10x), Garmadon used his Oni Form to one shot him. This implies Oni Form is likely comparable to at least a 10^5x boost or 100,000x. In this form Garmadon has additional resistances, feats, and scaling listed in their relevant sections.
Support
Zurg
Zurgbots
Large Robots armed with missile launchers, Zurg can teleport them into combat on a whim. There are Yellow Zurgbots which Buzz can one-shot, while the larger purple ones take a few hits
Explosive Spiderbots
Small, burrowing robots that explode into a large shockwave when destroyed
Hornets
Mass-produced robots that can fly and are armed with triple-barrel laser cannons and shields. Typically, they do little more than get destroyed by a Space Ranger, however, there is strength in numbers. They also come in a few varieties.
Rocket Hornets: Same as a regular Hornet except armed with missiles instead of laser cannons.
Mini Hornets: Small Hornets, much weaker, but can be disguised as school children.
Beetles: Large, red and on tracks. Beetles are far stronger and more durable than Hornets.
Miniature Hornets: different than Mini Hornets (Zurg is dogshit at naming things) Tiny Hornets, the size of bugs that Zurg used to collect the DNA of Buzz and his crew.
Wasps: Hornets that fly like normal Hornets, except they use wings for some reason. Equipped with flamethrowers
Techno Ticks: Tiny hornets capable of delivering small shocks and hacking entire mainframes
Hyper Hornet
A big ass hornet, to quote Zurg “He’s like a regular Hornet, except bigger and eviler”. Equipped with rockets, lasers, and laser nets
Mega Hornet
Another large Hornet basically just smashes buildings. Zurg wanted to destroy food supplies and raise food prices. Can also shoot missiles and lasers
Grubs
Grubs are the bulk of Zurg’s workforce, assembling machines, delivering messages, and activating machines. Not big on combat, but often capable of creating often impractical inventions to carry out Zurg’s evil. In the past, Zurg has used them as spies to plant bombs.
Brain Pods
More generic minions, the “brains” of Zurg’s workforce, they do much of what the Grubs do, as well as scientific research, developing much of Zurg’s most effective technology.
Spy Drone
A drone Zurg used to survey the LGM Planet. It could even take the shape of an LGM to blend in with the residents of the planet.
Zyclopses (LY)
Zurg’s Minion of choice in Lightyear. These robots are designed to capture and retrieve with their devices, which they attach to things, to teleport them back to Zurg’s ship. They are capable of Flight and firing powerful Lasers.
Notable Allies
Warp Darkmatter
Once Buzz’s partner, Warp, was seemingly killed in an explosion, only for it to later be revealed that he was a double agent for Zurg. Enhanced by the evil emperor, this fallen space ranger can fly and shoot lasers/fire/an extendable claw from his cybernetics. For equipment, he packs a large blaster, a banned Plasma Rifle, and shoulder-mounted spike bombs
Torque
A four-armed, gun-wielding outlaw. Given incredible abilities by Evil Emperor Zurg that allow him to duplicate himself by touching his chest, with seemingly no limit on how many clones he can make. Torque is armed with a set of 4 guns that are also capable of shooting nets. He also rides around on a space bike armed with back-facing Pop Guns.
Gravitina
A powerful wielder of Telekinsis, Gravitina can use her powers to throw around who and whatever she pleases, such as large asteroids or even pieces of the sun. Zurg originally hired her to destroy Star Command, and she later allied herself with Evil Buzz.
XL
The failed predecessor of XR has gone rogue. Violent and unstable, XL is laser proof, can fly (Like every character in this verse lol) and packs a variety of weapons depending on the set of arms he's rocking. A drill hand (Pictured above), an energy cannon, an acid blaster, a missile launcher, a sharp claw, and an electricity blaster. Hard to destroy because he can put himself back together if he has the right pieces. He did eventually betray Zurg alongside NOS-4-A2, but he was then betrayed by NOS himself, so he likely wouldn’t do it again.
NOS-4-A2
One of Zurg’s greatest creations. A flying vampire-like robot with the ability to imitate voices, control robots, fire lasers, and take over anything technological, including the entirety of Star Command. NOS would later betray Zurg and take over Planet Z, but this was a planned occurrence, not impromptu, so he likely wouldn’t do it during a fight. While his abilities are designed for tech-based life forms, with certain radiation present, when he bites a human, they turn into a robotic Wirewolf, which will intermittently make them a mindless monster that seeks out energy sources; this can be resisted by the infectee.
Evil Buzz Lightyear
An Alternate Dimension Buzz Lightyear that conquered his home universe and destroyed Star Command. He can fly around just like any space ranger. He wields an incredibly powerful pistol and rocket launcher with massive destructive capability. He also has access to the Shiv Katal Armour, which can fire lasers and trap people in bubbles.
Clone Rangers
Evil Clones of Buzz, Mira, and Booster. Roughly preschool-aged and general nuisances to everyone around them, including Zurg. Fly around in a spaceship, but don’t really know how to drive well. Have standard guns and jetpacks, and the Mira Clone can phase through walls just like Mira.
Shape Stealer
A sentient cloak that can control the bodies of those it covers. Using this to either attack a target or make the controlled person kill themselves. A good hit to the possessed target can cause the Shape Stealer to release them
Vicki Vortex
A Galactically renowned Supermodel that Zurg scored a date with.
Sox (LY)
A Small Catlike Robot capable of performing basic tasks to assist Buzz and having all the capabilities of an iPhone 14. He can also perform complex chemistry calculations however, it took him Decades. Not particularly fond of Buzz becoming Evil and will actively work against him. Directing enemies around the Mothership.
Garmadon
The Skulkin
When Garmadon was bound to the underworld, he struck a deal with Samukai and the Skulkin to retrieve the Golden Weapons and bring him back. After Samukai betrayed Garmadon and died, it seemed as though they had separated themselves from Garmadon; however, they were shown to be willing to ally themselves with Garmadon against a greater threat in the form of the Serpentine.
As their design would imply, the Skulkin are undead, capable of surviving their body parts being separated. They ride around in skeleton themed vehicles and are armed with Swords, axes, and large bones.
The Serpentine
An ancient race of snakes, after the Serpentine war, they were sealed away in tombs, only to be freed by a young Lloyd Garmadon. After the defeat of The Great Devourer, the Serpentine found themselves working for Garmadon. Skales would overthrow Garmadon and lead the Serpentine; however, they would eventually become a peaceful race, and if the situation arose, would support Garmadon by the end of the series.
The Serpentine are typically armed with swords, shields, axes and other standard weaponry. Four different Species of Serpentine worked under Garmadon, each of which have unique abilities.
Hypnobrai: The Hypnobrai have the ability to control people by hypnotizing them with prolonged eye contact.
Fangpyre: The Fangpyre possess a venom capable of turning people and machines into snakes with just a bite. While it takes time to turn people, machines are affected immediately.
Venomari: The Venomari possess a Venom that they spit at foes, causing them to hallucinate. This even effects robots
Constrictai: The Constrictai are capable of burrowing into the ground. They use this to get the jump on foes.
The Stone Army
An army originally belonging to The Overlord, The Stone Army was created from a dark material found deep within The Dark Island. These Warriors are said to be Indestructible and could match The First Spinjitzu Master Himself. These Warriors are armed with Swords, Shields, Crossbows and a variety of vehicles.
The Sons of Garmadon
A cult-like biker gang obsessed with Lord Garmadon. Led by Harumi, the Sons of Garmadon sought to resurrect only the evil side of the Master of Destruction, hoping to rule Ninjago alongside him. Succeeding in their plan, the Sons of Garmadon briefly had a brutal rule over Ninjago; however, it all fell apart, and the Ninja defeated them. The Sons of Garmadon ride around on motorcycles and are armed with knives, staves, sai and katanas.
Two Moon Village Residents & Bears
When Garmadon was on a personal journey, he eventually came across Two Moon Village, a small village known for their Two Moon Tea. Garmadon would agree to help deal with their bear problem which was previously the job of the rebranded Sons of Garmadon, now under the leadership of Mogra. After defeating the bears, Garmadon was defeated by Mogra and left to regroup. Garmadon united the Bears and Villagers against Mogra and The Red Crows, defeating them and taking back the Village. The Residents of Two Moon Village aren’t really big fighters, but still do their best to defend their home. The Bears are well, Bears.
Development Company?
Garmadon owns a company that acquires properties to develop the land, which he used to leverage Dareth’s debts and tear his dojo down. He supposedly planned to put a disc golf course in its place.
Notable Allies
Samukai
Once King of the Underworld, when his throne was taken by Garmadon, he served as the general of the Skulkin in a plot to release Garmadon from the Underworld. He and the Skeletons managed to collect 3 of the Golden Weapons before they returned to the Underworld to collect the 4th. When Samukai collected the 4th, he betrayed Garmadon, only to be killed by the overwhelming strength of all 4 weapons. Samukai has 4 arms, which he utilizes to fight with 4 bone daggers and a Bone Battleaxe. Samukai is capable of effectively wielding the Scythe of Quakes, Shurikens of Ice, and Nunchucks of Lightning.
Skales
Skales has been right hand man to nearly every leader of the Serpentine, overtaking the previous leader of the Hypnobrai, Pythor and eventually Garmadon himself. Skales worked briefly under Garmadon while he led the Serpentine. Skales possesses the inherent abilities of a Hypnobrai, in addition to the staff, and large tail and more complex hypnosis. Skales was able to hypnotise Cole, without Cole knowing which he used to see through Cole’s eyes and later reactivate his control without any need for eye contact.
General Kozu
Kozu was the Leader of the Stone Army. A skilled, nearly invincible, four armed warrior that served Garmadon well. Originally Kozu fought with a set of four butterfly swords, but he later also used a replica of the elemental swords.
Harumi
When the Great Devourer attacked many innocents were killed, among them were Harumi’s parents. Believing the Ninja’s failure was responsible for her parents death and Garmadon a hero for killing the Devourer, she spent a lifetime building up hatred. This culminated in a plot where she was to unite the 3 Oni masks and resurrect Garmadon. Starting by assembling the Sons of Garmadon, manipulating Lloyd and the Ninja, and literally blowing up her adopted parents. Serving as Garmadon right hand lady after his resurrection she served him well until her death when she was crushed by The Colossus (she got resurrected later tho)
Harumi is incredibly strong, skilled and cunning. Her plan to resurrect Garmadon was incredibly elaborate. She wields Katanas to great effect, and could even hold her own against Lloyd She has also taught herself the dark magic to open portals between realms. Harumi is also the primary wielder of the Oni Mask of Hatred
Killow
“The Big Man” Killow is a General in charge of deciding who makes it into The Sons of Garmadon. Killow is enormous, like 8 feet tall, which grants him extraordinary strength allowing him to wield a greatsword nearly as big as he is. Killow is also the primary wielder of the Oni Mask of Deception
Mr. E
Mr. E is one of the Generals of The Sons of Garmadon, a highly skilled and powerful Nindroid who will perform any task he is given with the utmost effort and efficiency. Mr. E is a skilled martial artist, capable of defeating Zane in single combat, and also wields a set of red Katanas. Mr. E is also the primary wielder of the Oni Mask of Vengeance.
Ultraviolet
Ultraviolet is a General of the Sons of Garmadon. She is absolutely batshit insane and fights like an insane person would, wielding a set of Sai the way someone that crazy would. She can also use the Oni Mask of Hatred if Harumi isn’t.
The Colossus
Garmadon created an enormous Colossus to obliterate his foes, capable of smashing through buildings and anyone who gets in his way. Garmadon has complete control of it with the Element of Destruction.
Kruncha & Nuckal
Kruncha and Nuckal are a pair of dumbasses that served as relatively high ranking members of the skeleton army (somehow). They have shown little proficiency in combat, however Nuckal seems to have taken over the leadership after the death of Samukai.
Kuma
Kuma is the leader of the bears, as old and as strong as the forest, Kuma can shake entire forests and fights using its enormous size to pulverize foes.
Vinny
Vinny is Gale Gossip’s Cameraman for NGTV. After stumbling into Garmadon on The Destiny’s Bounty he ended up sharing some words of wisdom that were key in setting him on the path back to good. Later Garmadon would move in with Vinny when he was making an attempt at living a fairly normal life.
Christofern
A gift from Vinny. Christofern was given to Garmadon to teach him empathy.
Bases
Zurg
Planet Z
Zurg is the ruler of Planet Z or “Xrghthung”. Planet Z serves as a base for all Zurgs scheming and houses many of his Grubs, Brain Pods, Hornet and inventions.
Garmadon
Vinny’s Apartment
Since Garmadon starting trying to become good again, he has lived with Vinny. He is not a very good roommate and mostly just watches TV and waters Christofern all day.

Scaling
Zurg
Buzz Lightyear
Buzz Lightyear, the galaxy's greatest hero, skilled, courageous and ever vigilant. Buzz and Zurg have scuffled with each other and are shown to be roughly on par. While Zurg’s weaponry is proven to be lethal if it connects.
Survived a direct hit from an enormous meteor that obliterated most of the surrounding terrain (85.4 Gigatons of TNT)
Buzz and Warp dislodged a large monster from the ground
Survived the energy from his laser being redirected at him “fiftyfold”
No way of scaling, but The Hyperspeed Accelerator is fast enough to move through Time Stops
Similarly, Santa’s Sleigh can deliver presents to everyone in the galaxy in a single night, however, no one scales to it.
(LY) Buzz can precisely pilot around a star at speeds approaching Light (~70% SOL)
Star Command
Considering Zurg is comparable to Buzz, he should be comparable, if not superior, to the rest of Star Command since Buzz is their best.
XR moved Buzz out of the way of a shot from the Zurgatronic Megaray (71.2 Billion c) (Inapplicable, See before the Verdict)
XR crossed a galaxy looking for The Fixer (18.3 Million c) (Debatable, See Before the Verdict)
Mira could absorb enough energy to power a weapon to destroy Star Command (839 Teratons of TNT)
Booster punched an Asteroid into pieces
Buzz’s team flew through a portion of a solar system in seconds (0.8c)
Star Command Laser Drills can destroy chunks of star
Star Command ships can keep pace with an empty ship moving at (0.95c)
Doctor Furbanna dodged Buzz’s Lasers
The Enemies of Star Command
Zurg is consistently portrayed as the greatest threat to Star Command. With most of the other villains being his henchmen at one point or another, and him being the final boss of Star Command for the PS1. Zurg should scale to the other Star Command Villains concretely, the only real question would be if he can physically scale to Gravitina’s Telekinetic capabilities, which will be addressed in Before the Verdict
Warp Graymatter survived a large explosion, which he used to fake his death.
Torque's bike dodged a shot from Buzz’s Laser
Gravitina can throw around a large asteroid made of an Iron/Nickel alloy (12.15 Teratons of TNT) (Debatable, See Before the Verdict)
Gravitina can manipulate the Sun’s Gravitational forces to cause massive Sunquakes (37.7 Ronnatons of TNT), destroy Star Command (839 Teratons of TNT) and destroy Capital Planet (59.4 Zettatons of TNT) (Debatable, See Before the Verdict)
XL tanked hits from loose change moving at 2000m/h. (416 kilojoules per coin)
Minister Gularis had a missile that could chemically convert an oxygen-based atmosphere into water (3.8 Gigatons of TNT)
NOS-4-A2 flew to a moon in seconds (1.03c)
Evil Buzz’s Pistol could Atomize Zurg (1.07 Tons of TNT)
Evil Buzz’s Pistol obliterated Buzz’s house
Evil Buzz destroyed most of Star Command (At Most 839 Teratons of TNT)
Spyro Lepton survived a large explosion
Spyro Lepton absorbed a city's energy generation for 53 seconds.
Mirrorverse (Debatable)
As Zurg is a hero in Disney Mirrorverse, it stands that he should be comparable to the other heroes and their foes.
Mickey Mouse’s Cape contains an entire Universe (Universal) (Debatable, See Before the Verdict)
Maui pulled the Sun out of the Sky and uses it in battle (Star)
Entire Galaxies and Universes Swirl around in Genie’s body (At least Universal) (Debatable, See Before the Verdict)
Eve’s defence system operates on an intergalactic scale
Stitch is faster than a Supercomputer and can lift items 3000 times his own size
Anger can explode like a Supernova (Inapplicable, Likely Hyperbole)
The Fractured Threaten to Destroy the Mirrorverse (37- 38x Universal) (Debatable, See Before the Verdict)
Garmadon
Lloyd Garmadon
Lloyd and Garmadon have had a bittersweet rivalry throughout the majority of the series, with many fights going either way. Garmadon and Lloyd should be roughly comparable in base, however it is currently unclear if Garmadon could scale to Lloyd’s Conduit form in Dragon’s Rising.
Dodged Lasers (0.42c) (Debatable, See Before the Verdict)
As a child, was claimed to have the power of the Scythe of Quakes.
He and Zeatrix caused an explosion that destroyed a Tournament of the Sources platform.
As the Conduit, Lloyd channelled the energy of the Source Dragons to stop the Megaquake Storm, which would have destroyed the entirety of the Merged Realms (16x Universal) (No Scaling)
Elemental Masters
Garmadon clearly scales to the Ninja, having defeated them on several occasions and frequently matching their Master. Other Elemental Masters are in the same ballpark as the Ninja in not weaker so he would scale to them as well.
When Jay first used Spinjitzu, his attackers seemed like they were moving in slow motion
Zane created a large ice formation (1.21 kilotons of TNT)
The Ninja Dodged an array of lasers from Nindroids (0.1c, 0.23c and 1.01c) (Inapplicable, see before the Verdict)
Kai dodged Jay’s Lightning (Mach 3332)
Kai Blocked a laser (0.21c) (Debatable, See Before the Verdict)
Kai used his powers to destroy a dragon made of ice (348.47 Tons of TNT)
Wu potentially created a pocket dimension containing a sun (91.5 Petatons - 136 Quettatons of TNT) (Debatable, See Before the Verdict)
The Villains of Ninjago
Garmadon is one of the only villains that has kept up with the Ninja. While most of the others have lagged behind he consistently has been able to match their power. Characters Garmadon scales to have defeated or matched everyone in Ninjago unless specified otherwise. In Oni Form, Garmadon could even trade blows with the greatest threat in all of Ninjago: The Overlord.
Skales took a missile to the face.
The Great Devourer can dodge blasts of sound
Nindroids flew from to the Delta V Meteor to Earth (Mach 1233)
Morro created a massive storm (532-732 Kilotons of TNT)
The Preeminent is the physical manifestation of the entire Cursed Realm (Universal)
Grief-Bringer can shake a mountain
Wojira was too powerful for the First Spinjitzu Master to defeat
Wojira created a storm that spread across all of Ninjago (75 Teratons of TNT)
The Oni threatened to cover all of creation in their darkness (55 Teratons - 29 Exafoe)
The Overlord ripped a mountain out of the ground
The Overlord and First Spintzu Master could have battled for eternity
The First Spinjitzu Master and The Golden Weapons
Garmadon being powerful enough to wield the Golden Weapons is an enormous plot point, as it has been proven to be lethal to those lacking enough strength. Garmadon believed his power would surpass his father, and with his Oni Form, he can trade blows with The Overlord, who is a direct match to The First Spinjitzu Master. Whether or not he scales to FSM in base is a discussion, however.
The Scythe of Quakes helped form Continents
The Golden Weapons could create a vortex through space and time
The Golden Weapons created a large storm after briefly touching
The Golden Weapons and Mega Weapon travelled to the Delta V Meteor and created a massive explosion (10.9 Quettatons of TNT and 3826c) (Debatable, See Before the Verdict)
The FSM Split Ninjago in half (2.8 Zettatons)
The FSM used the Golden Weapons to create Ninjago alongside some of the other realms (1-4x Universal) (See Before the Verdict for Clarification)
Misc Characters
Garmadon’s ability to scale to the likes of The FSM and Overlord, puts him above basically every character except the Source Dragons. This even includes characters from Legends of Chima since the island of Chima is canonically part of the Wyldness, one of the 16 realms
P.I.X.A.L. traded blows with and even overpowered The Preeminent
Kuma shook a forest
The Fire Knight Mech blew a hole in some clouds (444 Kilotons of TNT)
The First Great Illumination ripped Mount Kovora from the ground
Weaknesses
Zurg
Zurg is not by any means an idiot however, he is consistently the cause of his greatest failures. Zurg’s tendency to monologue about his plans often gives Buzz the information he needs to defeat Zurg. Zurg is also incredibly reliant on his support for most of his best tech; things like the Zurgatronic Megaray or Planet Destroyer aren’t really operated by him directly, and he instead has to rely on the inconsistency of Grub’s and Brain Pods.
Garmadon
Garmadon at times struggles to think straight and control his wrath, especially with his Oni form. While he has grown to be able to keep himself together, under moments of pressure he can still slip. His Elemental powers are directly tied to conflict, and refusing to engage in combat with him can drain him of his powers. Additionally, his ‘army’ isn’t really one collective force, but more so a bunch of small groups that he has been allies with for times. Had it not been for the existence of a greater threat such as at the end of Crystalized, there would be no precedent of these characters working together or being willing to work with Garmadon again. Garmadon generally does not work well with his support much of the time, at least not for long.
Before the verdicts…
MFTL+ Star Command: To Infinity and Beyond?
Star Command has several arguments for getting in the MFTL+ range, however, there is not a single on-screen feat of this, and seldom are time frames given and almost never distances.
Before we get into the meat and bones, we will first address XR moving Buzz out of the way of a blast from the Zurgatronic Megaray. At a glance, this seems fine; however, when going through it frame by frame, there is actually zero in tandem movement. By the time Megaray’s blast is on screen, Buzz and XR are gone, and as a result, there’s actually no feat here.
XR crossing a galaxy is the only example we found of a character physically moving across such distances (XL moves around without a ship, but no idea of the distance is given), and it had more specificity than the vague galactic distances Starships Travel nearly every episode. We also have Zurg’s Hornets matching the speed of a ship as supporting evidence to characters moving as fast as ships. This is, however, contradicted by Warp Darkmatter stating ships are far faster than Jetpacks.
While ships in Star Command travel intergalactic distances incredibly frequently, we get some insight into their speeds when Buzz and his Team are playing Traffic Cop and clock a ship going 95% The Speed of Light. Booster then says this is over double the speed limit, implying that most of the time ships travel at just under half the speed of light. The Teams ship also requires significant effort to catch up with this ship moving 95% SOL, implying that they are not significantly faster than it.
Star Command seemingly lacks a Hyperspace equivalent to explain how they travel at such incredible speeds. While wormholes do exist, they only appear once and in that very same scene, they travel to Trade World without one in around 3 hours (No known distance, of course). The lack of an explanation for how they get around consistently is the strongest evidence for ships travelling at MFTL+ Speeds, while it could be chalked up to bad writing, this idea is up in the air.
Back to XR’s feat itself, beyond the aforementioned issues, the feat, being what XR states, is questionable. XR is incredibly dishonest, and at the time, he was broke and hoping to get something for basically free. XR is a swindler, womanizer, racist, and probably went to Diddy parties. It would not be remotely out of character for him to lie or exaggerate when he wants something for free. The feat is also entirely off-screen, so we have no confirmed time frame or proof that he flew the distance himself and didn’t get another ship after leaving.
This feat could also just be reasonably argued as an outlier, it's substantially faster than any other viable speed feat, even other strong movement speed showings such as traveling to and from moons. This feat is just not usable with the limited context available.
Is Gravitina Scalable?
The ability to physically scale characters the the Telekinetic power of Gravitina is questionable. In her first appearance, Gravitina needed an amp to throw around asteroids, but this was not the case when she ripped chunks of the sun out and could use them to nuke Star Command and Capital Planet. Gravitina’s powers use energy, so they can be attributed to stats, but what is unclear is if Zurg can scale to these. Characters are consistently able to harm Gravitina either in the show or in her Star Command Boss fight, though despite this, they are not able to overcome the strength of her Gravitational abilities without a similar ability.
While the evidence generally seems to point against Zurg physically scaling to her abilities, their lack of on-screen interactions and her narrative position of a much lesser threat and one of his henchmen, do give the idea some weight. At the best it could be considered a high end.
Educational Game Planet Moving
In Theory, this feat is probably fine; it really just lacks enough context to scale Zurg to it. We have no idea how Zurg moved this planet, whether it was with his bare hands or more likely with equipment he lacks any way of scaling to. We also have no actual sense of a Timeframe, a week could be far too long or nowhere near long enough. There's also the general questionability of using an Educational game as a feat, especially when it’s kinda a one-off statement and not something that happens on screen. Feat is just too vague to consider solid, but could support Zurg being in that general range. But it’s also funny to use.
Cosmic Compactor Scaling
Physically scaling Zurg to the full power of the Cosmic Compactor doesn’t make much sense. The Compactor itself has about as blatant a star-level feat as you can get. Crushing a star into a black hole is effectively creating a black hole with the same mass as the star, which would be a feat that gets exactly star level.
The issues are not with the feat itself but with Zurg scaling to it. When Zurg himself was crushed, it was not remotely to the extent that the star was, nor was it with as many compactors as were used to compact the sun. Star Command is also generally not prone to using lethal measures, even against Zurg, so it’s likely that the goal of the LGM was just to destroy Zurg’s ship and leave him cursing Buzz Lightyear.
Mirrorverse Carries?
The general usability and potential of relying on Mirrorverse for Zurg is inherently questionable. Its inclusion is primarily because this is quite literally a composite Zurg. Whether it should be included is up to the reader, but it goes without saying that Mirrorverse is the source of some of Zurg’s stats and scaling. However, many of its feats run into quite major problems or don't scale to the game's cast like Zurg.
Maui
Yeah, Maui pulling around the sun is actually like a totally fine feat and quite blatant.
Mickey’s Universal Cape
Mickey’s Cape is said to contain a universe however, this is more of a visual thing than an actual feat. The Disney Mirrorverse novel “Pure of Heart” clarifies that it only looks as if it contains a galaxy, not that it actually does. While it doesn’t refer to a universe in the novel, the idea is the same.
Genie
While it's incredibly likely that Genie’s statement is also only visual, there is no direct statement of this; however, it is also implied that no one really scales to Genie. Genie is referred to as “Omnipotent” and can make himself “Invulnerable”. Genie is generally described as immensely powerful, to an extent far beyond the other characters, while he's also stated to be a pacifist and even more carefree than his original version. The general implication is that he's substantially stronger than the rest of the cast and the fractured that they fight and isn’t trying to keep things interesting.
Anger Supernova
This is clear Hyperbole. Anger’s whole thing is exploding into fire, and the term supernova is never used outside the artbook.
Zurg Fucks up Space Time
Zurg actually has two statements worth talking about. The First of which is Lightspeed Fuel becoming potent enough to punch holes in space-time. The statement is likely attempting to convey that the combination of Stellar Magic and Lightspeed fuel more or less tore open a portal that allowed the versions of Zurg to have a Battle Royale. Not actually destroying an entire Spacetime
The second feat is Zurg destabilizing reality with spacetime distortions. This feat as an idea doesn't really have any issues, though it's unlikely that he fully scales to their output. In-game, when Zurg Prime generates a Temporal Singularity, they by no means have an immediate effect on reality, so they likely require time to be sustained before they reach such destructive capability.
The Fractured/Cosmology
As stated here, the Mirrorverse contains isolated versions of the “Source Worlds.” These worlds are not connected to the original worlds, so we don't have to consider the cosmologies of each crossover (Thank God). In total, the Mirrorverse contains 37-38 worlds (Depending on whether you include the Stellar Mirror)
Now, the only way to scale anyone to the entirety of the Mirrorverse is through the Fractured, threatening to “Shatter” it. However, there are countless Fractured and no one really scales to their entire force. It is also made clear that the goal of the fractured is to destroy the Stellar Mirror, so the destruction of the Mirrorverse is likely a chain reaction from this.
It’s a bit of a stretch to derive much from the general threat of the Fractured, and even if they were 37-38x Uni, Zurg doesn’t remotely scale to their entire force.
Conclusion
Between the general issue of including Mirrorverse at all and the potential problems with the feats of note in general, you shouldn’t really be using it as the crux of your arguments. However, if you do buy into its inclusion, Zurg Prime is solidly Star, potentially Universal depending on your interpretations of Zurg Prime’s Reality and Spacetime affecting feats.
Ninjago Laser Dodging
Ninjago is fairly consistent with its laser dodging feats, however not in a good way. Most, if not all of the feats have some semblance of an issue, however we believe that at least one of these feats is likely valid.
Nindroid Lasers
Nindroid lasers are almost usable, however they have a couple examples of doing things that disqualify them. While they are shown to shatter glass, this alone could be argued against as heat could do the same. The issue is their destructive capabilities, such as creating explosions in “Project Arcturis” or seemingly tearing holes in metal in “Blackout”. They do not act like lasers consistently enough to be treated as such.
Evil Lasers
The Lasers from the Overlords big ass tower thing do not have much to outright disqualify them, but can be questioned. They are shown to reflect, while creating flashes of light, however when these lasers hit the soldiers of the Stone Army, they reacted in a way that could be interpreted as them carrying force, however it could also just be them getting hurt by lasers
Lasers + Dogs
These lasers do not do anything that disqualifies them. The closest thing is Nya stating that they drain the energy from the dogs, however this seems to just be the robot dogs short circuiting. The bigger issue is Zane stating (while they are dodging lasers) that the dogs move at 30mph and that they cannot outrun them. Zane is typically a reliable source, however movement speed and reaction speed are different things, and this statement and feat refer to said different things. This is not to say it’s not a valid point against the feat, but the statement alone shouldn’t detract from the fact they dodge lasers that act like and are stated to be as such.
There are plenty of other Lasers in Ninjago, from what we have seen they all have issues and aren't talked about much. If you have questions about them feel free to reach out, it is just unnecessary to go over 85 different lasers.
Golden Weapons and The FSM
The exact power of The Golden Weapons is hard to pin down. Similarly, what exactly The First Spinjitzu Master can do with them and to what extent Garmadon scales to them.
Garmadon scaling to the Golden Weapons is fairly clearly established. His goal upon escaping the underworld was to gain enough power to wield all the Golden Weapons, seeing as when Samukai held all 4 he was killed. Later, he showed a clear ability to wield all 4 when he used them to destroy the Great Devourer. Afterwards, he reforged them into the Mega Weapon, which was also established to kill those lacking Garmadon’s Power. This is shown repeatedly after such as in Rebooted when it killed a Nindroid or when this energy also killed Zane. Contact with all the Golden Weapons is consistently depicted as lethal to those without enough power to hold them, and Garmadon’s ability to wield them is directly tied to his power.
The Mega Weapon explosion is a very important feat. While this is often considered to be a Star-Creating feat, this has been mainly debunked and was likely retconned. Mii’s Vs Minifigures has an excellent explanation of the issues with the Star End. Our calculation of the explosion gets a yield of 10.9 Quettatons. This calc is the same in nature as the one in Mii’s Vs Minifigures, just refined, so all the arguments stand. Garmadon has clear scaling to the Mega Weapon/Golden Weapons as established previously. While the explosion is fine, scaling characters to the speed at which the Golden Weapons and Mega Weapon move is problematic. At no other point does any form of the Golden Weapons act in this way, and characters do not move in tandem with them when they do this or anything. These speeds are only reached once under fairly specific conditions, and there is no way to scale characters to this speed.
FSM creating some of the realms other than Ninjago is a blatant Universal (Or higher) feat, however it is unclear this sequence is intended to convey that he created all 4 realms at once or individually, or if the intention is that each of the Golden Weapons possess the power to create a realm or that a single realm required all 4.
If you interpret this feat as each weapon made a Realm, then there is no need to discuss it further. Garmadon scaling to the combined power of all 4 weapons would put him solidly at 4x Uni in base. This is probably the most obvious way to interpret the sequence, given the graphic depicts each weapon basically turning into a realm.
Whether FSM created the realms at once or separately is entirely up to interpretation, and depending on your interpretation, this would put FSM at 1-4x Uni. Garmadon’s Oni Form would just scale to this through The Overlord. Base Garmadon scaling, however, is more of a discussion. It is entirely unclear how much of the heavy lifting FSM did compared to the Weapons, and if Garmadon is anywhere near that. Garmadon is >= The Power of The Golden Weapons, as would The FSM have been. All this alone tells us is that they are both stronger than the Golden Weapons, which is not much, so let’s look at another being comparable to FSM, The Overlord.
Season 3 Ninjago sees The Overlord attempt to return after his defeat by Golden Master Lloyd, seeking to siphon Golden Power from Lloyd to become Golden Master. When Lloyd gives up the Golden Power, The Overlord turns to The Golden Weapons to become the Golden Master. This implies that The Golden Weapons are comparable in strength to Golden Power, which, as shown at the end of Season 2, scales to The Overlord (And by extension FSM)
Golden Weapons = Golden Power = Overlord/FSM
Zane’s Ability to channel the energy of the Reforged Golden Weapons and Destroy The Overlord supports this line of thinking
It is also possible to argue Garmadon directly scales to FSM upon his rebirth, given he states he will surpass his father's power. This could refer to the Oni Form, however.
Wu’s Pocket Dimension
Wu’s Pocket Dimension is a strange and vague feat, if a feat at all. In Virtues of Spinjitzu, Wu created a series of challenges across multiple settings. One of these settings looked to contain a Sun. The problems with this feat are first deriving what this pocket dimension feat would get stat-wise, if it is a feat. There is no outright proof that it's actually a sun, but similarly, there's no proof that it is not. The Sun is used as a central piece of a shot, so it's clearly intended to be there. Luminosity is a conservative end for the feat; however, the standard for a feat like this seems to be to use the Sun’s creation value.
Pocket Dimension feats generally ask 3 main questions: Did they just transport them to the place as opposed to creating it, do they scale to the creation, and is it an Illusion? The first 2 are pretty simple to answer. While Wu does create portals to the challenges, they are not settings that exist or could exist outside of this scenario, with them having obvious and intentional continuity issues, such as reliving past events or the presence of the Ice Emperor.
The feat would also likely scale to physicals, it is a feat performed with the Element of Creation, and it has been established in the past with the Golden Weapons/Mega, that using an ability, even if just to create, requires sufficient physical strength. The power of Creation and Destruction is also established as being equal in power, to the point that the beings they originate from were locked in an unending stalemate, so Garmadon would scale.
The real question is if this was all an Illusion. Wu is asked this very question by Lloyd and gives the most incredibly vague response that “Reality is all in one’s perception” before showing the dragons from the challenges. This sequence sort of implies that Wu wants the ninja to believe it’s all an illusion, but it was actually real; however, nothing is definitive.
This whole feat is very much open for interpretation, and its vagueness means leaning either way is entirely valid, and it likely best works as a supporting cosmic feat.
Does Garmadon Scale to DR Characters?
Garmadon is yet to show up in Dragons Rising, so it kinda leaves the idea of whether or not he scales to anything after the series ends entirely unclear. He wouldn't get really much of note beyond scaling to Lloyd and the Mergequake Storm, but the topic is still worth acknowledging in the event more feats come up going forward. Source Dragon scaling was not noted in scaling because he wouldn't scale, and unless he is stated to or shown to, this is out of the question as a possibility. Logically, he could likely still scale to the Ninja who scale to the rest of the show's cast, considering how much stronger he was than them by the end of the show. So he likely scales to most characters in Dragons Rising, just not anything that matters yet. This BTV doesn't really matter and was just added to include the best image ever made (Alive but Gay)
Would Garmadon’s Army Just Fight Each Other?
While at times The Skulkin, Snakes, Stone Army, and Sons of Garmadon would have turned this matchup into a Battle Royale, it’s not the case by the end of the series. The Skulkin have shown themselves to ally against a greater foe, even under the command of Garmadon himself. The Serpentine are relatively peaceful in ‘Rebooted’ and onward and have often stepped up against more threatening foes. The Stone Army would be under Garmadon’s control via The Helmet of Shadows. And the Sons of Garmadon fought against the Crystal King/Overlord. The only characters with potential to not stick with Garmadon against an invading threat are Samukai’s bitchass, who could be convinced to change teams for really any gain. And Potentially Mr. E who probably doesn't like Garmadon by the end of the series but he’s a Robot and might be chill with the rest of Garmadon’s people.
Fight Script
We also have a fight script for this. If you have gotten invested in this MU, this is an attempt to sell the dynamic of the match the best I can
Verdict
After going through all that Zurg and Garmadon have to offer, 4 main categories stick out as the defining factors to this debate. Their stats, who is stronger and who is faster, and by how much? Their Abilities and Tools, whose arsenal has what it takes to secure a victory? Their Armies, whose support has what it takes to turn the tide of the battlefield? And their Capability as fighters, whose skill, experience, and strategy lets them best utilize what they can do?
Stats are a very pretty, clear-cut section, with the general trend of them favouring one side quite overwhelmingly.
For physical strength/durability, the more conservative and finite ends for these characters have Zurg surviving an enormous explosion coming in at 10.2 Exatons, which is very impressive but nowhere near the energy Garmadon is handling when he holds The Golden Weapons/Mega Weapon, which could create and explosion at 10.9 Quettatons, a feat over a Quadrillion times greater than what Zurg handles. Scaling Zurg to Gravitina can serve to get him far closer to this range at 37.7 Ronnatons, closing the gap to ‘only’ a difference of just under 300x. The power of the Cosmic Compactors and dubiously scaling Zurg to them is Zurg’s only way of exceeding the Golden Weapons’ explosion, but is matched by Wu’s Pocket Dimension and exceeded by Universal End for Golden Weapons scaling.
This is all without taking into account Garmadon’s Oni Form, which lets him at least downscale the Oni’s Darkness, which reaches 29 ExaFoe. The Oni form can even concretely reach as high as Universal through scaling to the Overlord/FSM, both of these are incomprehensibly higher than where Zurg can scale without Zurg Prime.
Choosing to include the crossover Mobile Game, Zurg Prime can roughly match base Garmadon in both finite and universal ends. Maui pulling down the Sun and Wu’s Pocket Dimension should get roughly in the same range. Similarly, Zurg Prime Destabilizing Spacetime and The Universal ends of the Golden Weapons roughly equal out (Golden Weapons could get 4x higher depending on your interpretation). Once again, the power gap arises when considering The Oni Form, The Oni’s Darkness eclipses Maui in the finite ends, and the form's potential 100,000x boost allows Garmadon to reach 100,000-400,000x Universal. Even scaling Zurg Prime to his highest potential end, with the entirety of The Fractured destroying the entire Mirrorverse, he would reach 38x Universal but would still be over 2500-10000x weaker than the Oni Form.
Garmadon is substantially stronger than Zurg, especially with the Oni Form and even when granting Zurg dubious media and complete leniency on what are argued to be invalid feats/scaling.
Speed is another simple thing to analyze. Zurg can consistently scale to both to a plethora of feats in range of the speed of light, his best feat being his laser barrel dodge coming in at 1.12c this is incredibly consistent with Star Command’s other portrayed feats of laser dodging, on screen travel between moon and planets and the maximum stated velocity for starships. Garmadon’s best direct speed feat would be intercepting light with his brother, coming in at 0.13c, while at best he should scale to Lloyd’s laser dodge, which comes in at 0.41c. While Lloyd’s laser dodging is argued to be valid, Ninjago lasers as a whole tend to possess issues, and 0.13c is an end much easier to argue. With this in mind, Zurg’s speed advantage is 2.7-8.6x. While you can argue far higher speeds for both, neither is viable, and they would benefit Zurg’s speed advantage further.
Between strength, durability and speed, Garmadon has a clear advantage in stats. While he may be consistently slower, his strength/durability advantage is incredibly oppressive, being several orders of magnitude stronger to the point where a single hit would be way more than enough to put Zurg down. While this would be difficult with a speed gap that is very much of note and Zurg’s only way to deal with this, the difference in speed is minuscule compared to the power gap. Garmadon takes Stats.
Abilities & Tools
Both these characters have access to incredibly powerful abilities and/or arsenals that interact with each other, each other’s equipment, and each other’s support in incredibly dynamic ways, resulting in a comparison where you have to take into account nearly everything they are capable of doing. We will be going through each character's notable equipment and abilities, and analyzing the advantages they can bring or how they may be countered
The Ion Blaster is Zurg’s primary tool when he fights. As far as a main weapon goes, it is incredibly solid. The variety of projectiles it can fire and the speeds at which it can fire them are ideal to fight at and maintain a distance with the stat dynamic
Zurg’s Rocket Boots grant him superior mobility with flight, even compared to the flight of the Oni Form.
The Forcefield Platform is a solid short-term defensive option; however is likely unreliable with its exploitable weakness
Brain Modules are not something Zurg has ever used in combat and are likely hard to get on foes in the heat of battle. While they could work to affect Garmadon’s support, Garmadon being unaffected by the Crystal King's Warriors would let him resist this.
Devolving Gas is unfortunately almost completely ineffective, while it could serve to revert Garmadon and his troops to their ancient ancestors, they don’t exactly have ancestors to be reverted to. Ninjago is not particularly old. FSM, the creator of Ninjago, was vaguely thousands of years old at the time of his death, and there’s no precedent that any evolution happened on Ninjago, strangely enough. The nature of living things is not really comparable to real life, and the origins of Humans are not exactly known. Garmadon himself is only two generations behind the residents of the first realm, and this gas (if he doesn’t resist it) would just make him an Oni. At the same time, Devolving Gas could also affect Zurg’s humanoid forces or even himself. If anything, the use of Devolving Gas would be to his detriment.
The Matter Transporter in theory, would be an excellent tool if Zurg didn’t explicitly not use it as a BFR option when presented with the idea. The uses he has show with it are not particularly helpful, he has no need to send his minions far distances and bringing Garmadon right to Zurg is a poor play.
The Zurgatronic Megaray is a massive advantage if the Grubs and Brain Pods manage to set it up and fire it, it could serve to sway a significant portion of Garmadon’s forces to Zurg’s Side. While Garmadon himself would resist, the effect this has on Garmadon’s Support is massive. Garmatron can accomplish something quite similar, it is not as effective and is countered.
“Planet Destroyer” isn’t exactly a main combat tool or a long term solution to Zurg’s Garmadon problem. He used it basically to gaslight the government into thinking he could actually destroy planets. The Interdimensional BFR sounds powerful on paper, but not only can the Golden Weapons allow Garmadon to travel between universes and escape the parallel dimension, but Planet Destroyer exists in the other dimension and itself can be used to just teleport the planet back just like Buzz and Star Command did when Planet Destroyer transported them.
Similar to Devolving gas, Green Winds of Change is not very beneficial. Not only would Garmadon himself just resist but Zurg and his Humanoid support are at great risk of being affected by it.
The Cosmic Compactors are a very solid nuking option. Their incredible power could compress Sun into a Black Hole and suck Ninjago into it (this isn’t how physics work but that’s what they do in Star Command) and then Zurg could just run away and leave them to die. This would be reactable, giving Garmadon time to evacuate from the planet or potentially board Zurg’s Ship and prevent his escape. It’s not an instant win, but a solid hit and run option. Similarly they could be used to target individual characters and equipment and crush them, not strong enough for Garmadon himself but much of his support could be targeted. These disks are quite obvious and could be destroyed if used in this way.
The Chrono Disruptor is a time stop, simple as that. Zurg can utilize it in both offensive and defensive ways, though he would be limited in his use to what he keeps on his person. Garmadon can do this as well with a time blade but has not used it in combat. This is another major boon to Zurg. It is fragile and could get destroyed in the chaos of the battle however.
With Zurg’s Dreadnaught, he has a base to hold his support for deployment and a way to deal out consistent damage from orbit, especially effective with an army. If he manages to destroy Ninjago he can also use it to just leave, a very helpful tech.
The Grande Hornet’s sheer size and firepower serve Zurg well in an army fight, but beyond that it doesn’t do a whole lot. It’s not strong enough to overpower Garmadon or anything.
Teleportation is a consistent defensive option. If something goes wrong just teleport away, Garmadon has no real way of directly countering this, especially with his inferior speed
The Golden Weapons, beyond being incredibly powerful, don’t really have an enormous amount of utility. Their most practical use would be the Scythe of Quakes and Shuriken of Ice being used to wipe out or freeze large amounts of support
The Mega Weapon is incredibly powerful and even without the ability to directly kill Zurg or his forces, is a consistent option to cripple or outright win and a defensive option to undo the effects of anything that may go wrong by turning back the clock. Garmadon can wish Zurg and his forces into children, resurrect any support that gets killed, Time (huh) Travel to before the fight even began, and get the jump on Zurg. The limitations of the Mega Weapon are unknown, and it likely can do just about anything, but even when limited to what wishes it’s shown to grant, the ways it can revive people and turn back time/time travel/affect people's age means it is an excellent defensive option and win condition. Zurg is getting cooked if he’s turned into a child. Even limiting Garmadon to a single use cause of its energy draining (which he seemed to be unaffected by on his final use, and could likely get past by drinking Two Moon Tea and healing himself) making a single wish is going to rightfully attract Zurg’s attention and potentially directly lead to Zurg grabbing the weapon and killing himself.
The Helmet of Shadows alone effectively means the Stone Army shouldn’t have to worry about getting mind-controlled by Zurg’s tools, but that’s mainly it.
Two Moon Tea gives Garmadon substantially better longevity, letting him heal injuries and regain stamina, potentially also enabling repeated use of The Mega Weapon.
The Time Blades, while helpful, aren’t something Garmadon has experience using, and when compared to the Chrono-Disruptor, at most cancel out. Whether or not he would use them at all is highly questionable, even under the parameters of VS. The Mega Weapon is a much more reliable time-manipulating option.
Garmatron is Garmadon’s best match for the Zurgatronic Megaray, though its individual shells each with a fairly small AOE, making it a far inferior option to a blast that instantly hits the entire field. Since Garmadon resists Mind Control while Zurg does not, the option is a greater threat to Zurg in general. It does, however, get countered by NOS-4A-2, which will be elaborated on in the Army section.
Spinjitzu and The Art of the Silent Fist are not super relevant in a fight where Zurg is absolutely not going to fist fight Garmadon. Spinjitzu would serve Garmadon well if he gets swarmed with enemies, and The Art of The Silent Fist could let him handle something like the Grande Hornet
Garmadon’s ability to create Shadows and Illusions is not well suited for the chaos of an army fight. He could potentially use it to throw Zurg off his game or hide his location, but it’s not something the setting lets him take advantage of.
The tools Garmadon gets with the Element of Destruction are crucial to this fight. A consistent ranged option lets him stay in contention with Zurg and his options. Creating Barriers to block the plethora of projectiles is very beneficial here. Massive AOE shockwaves that can wipe out large amounts of Zurg’s forces. And most importantly, Telekinesis basically lets Garmadon win on the spot. Zurg has to rely on his speed to not get one shot, and against Telekinesis, that isn’t much of an option. Just a wave of Garmadon’s hand, and he’s crushing Zurg’s windpipe and tearing him limb from limb
While Garmadon has used Dark Magic, it was only once and outside of a combat situation. Characters more versed with it, like Clause, have opened portals to other realms to attempt to BFR foes, but it’s unclear if Garmadon even possesses the knowledge to perform these spells.
Garmadon’s Sensing is potentially helpful. You could argue it would let him at least be mentally prepared for this fight. Zurg takes pride in being a great evil, but he’s not really supernatural in nature and doesn’t have any link to Garmadon.
The Oni Form is a source of a lot of Garmadon’s previously stated advantages, helping his stat advantage and allowing him to resist mind control and biological manipulation. Garmadon tends to use this basically immediately after a fight starts, so there’s no real risk of getting hit before he uses it.
What this category as a whole comes down to is that both have incredibly versatility and powerful Abilities/Tools, Zurg’s best options are just outright resisted or easily countered by Garmadon. Zurg has great methods to take control of a great amount of Garmadon’s support, but not all like the Stone Army, and Garmadon could likely just wish them back with the Mega Weapon. It also doesn’t allow Zurg to handle Garmadon’s overwhelming power. Zurg’s Time Stop, while an incredible tool, can’t let him win when he’s limited to his most basic offensive options like the Ion Blaster. Zurg’s only real way to actually win against Garmadon is to Cosmic Compactor the Sun into a Black Hole and run away, but that’s not going to be his opening move against a foe he has yet to encounter. Much of what Garmadon has is actually just worse versions of Zurg’s strongest options and roughly cancel out, bar a few key things. The Mega Weapon alone lets him just rewind if it all goes to shit, bring back his whole army, age everyone on Zurg’s side into toddlers or let Zurg kill himself. Two Moon Tea’s longevity is always of note, and The Element of Destruction’s ability to let Garmadon just immediately end this fight with TK is oppressive. Both could do a lot but Garmadon held a few key options, Garmadon takes Abilities & Tools.
Armies
Both these characters have impressive militias they bring into battle, and with so many characters on the board, like the previous, we will go through the relevant support one by one. First, howeve,r it is important to note that the Stat Dynamic doesn’t shift much when looking at support. Most notable characters scale to or at worst downscale from their leader on the basis of having fought Buzz/Lloyd or someone comparable to them, and the weaker cronies are substantially weaker than them. The only notable deviations from this are Gravitina’s powers obviously scaling to her Sunquakes and Kozu/The Stone Army directly scaling to the First Spinjitzu Master completely independently of more complicated scaling chains.
Hornets and Zurg’s other generic henchmen are a case of strength in numbers. There are a lot of Hornets, but they are not particularly strong on their own. Their Numbers, however, likely far exceed Garmadons. Grubs and Brain Pods are needed to keep Zurg’s shit running, but beyond that, not much of an advantage.
Warp is not much of a haxman which is where a helpful support is, but he’s reliable and should scale to Zurg.
Torque is helpful with his ability to continuously duplicate himself over the course of a fight and stick around with his weaponry.
Gravitina has the potential to just nuke the battlefield. Her ability to throw chunks of the Sun at the Battlefield and cause great destruction is very helpful. Her Telekinesis also helps her to 1v1 most of Garmadon’s support, but her general physical fragility means it’s not something she can do for long.
XL can definitely put work in on the front line with his general strength and durability, but his tools aren’t super interesting.
NOS-4A-2 could serve to completely shift another matchup into Zurg’s favour with his incredible control over tech. Garmadon doesn’t have much tech to take control of. NOS’s main target would be Garmatron, which would serve to cut Garmadon off from his only Mind Control option. NOS could also target a couple other vehicles or Mr. E
Evil Buzz is probably smarter than Zurg, and his destructive Arsenal is beneficial in an army fight. His relationship with Gravitina means they would work well together.
Shape Stealer is either going to hop from soldier to soldier, making his way to Garmadon and attempting to take him over, or immediately get destroyed. If the former is the case than he has a real chance at taking out many of Garmadon’s notable allies, now if he can gets hit while controlling someone he’s out, but if he controls someone like Harumi he could take a shot at Garmadon although none of Garmadon’s support that aren’t either too large to be targeted like Kuma or already controlled by Garmadon, have the potential to win. Garmadon himself should resist under the same basis he resists Zurg’s other similar options.
The Skulkin & Samukai are not game changers, not super competent or strong but the can put themselves back together when taken down, making them somewhat renewable. Samukai could potentially make some plays with the Elemental Weapons he’s wielded but nothing substantial
The Serpentine & Skales actually have a great deal of utility with them. The Hypnobrai’s hypnosis is a mind control option that can’t really be countered. Skales specifically could plant it and save it. The Fangpyre are very good against Hornets and such, and could turn them into snake robots, potentially turning the tides of the entire battle. The Venomari’s hallucinations could be debilitating to any they hit with it.
The Stone Army & Kozu are just incredibly powerful, and realistically, Zurg lacks the strength to kill them, and they are already under Garmadon’s control, rendering Zurg’s main counterplay moot.
Harumi is probably the best 1v1 fighter on the board. he incredible cunning and skill make up for her relative lack of abilities, and she can power through most things with the Oni Mask of Hatred’s Invincibility
Killow with the Oni Mask of Deception has access to that all too powerful Telekinesis that he can use to throw around people and objects. Not as lethal as Garmadon’s but not useless by any means
Mr. E does not do well here despite his skill, he is frame one getting jumped by NOS and turned against Garmadon
The Colossus/Kuma both possess incredible size to wash through any weaker support en masse, but has little beyond that
After analyzing their support this is actually pretty balanced. Most support lacks game-changing options except for NOS hard countering Garmatron or a potential good performance out of Shape Stealer. The Serpentine could control, transform and make Zurg’s forces Hallucinate, but are Vulnerable to the Zurgatronic Megaray, which means it’s not super reliable for them to stay on Garmadon’s Side. Zurg’s forces outnumber, and the army as a whole plays into his Equipment options. Garmadon’s only source of support that can reliably stick around is The Stone Army. Despite being outnumbered and at great risk of being swapped to the other team, Garmadon’s support does possess a notable stat advantage.
This all said, unlike Garmadon, what Zurg has is one cohesive unit that works with him on the regular and/or are built for the specific purpose of fighting as Zurg’s militia. They have worked for/with Zurg on the regular (bar a few minor exceptions) and are altogether a singular force under one person's command. What Garmadon has is a bunch of small groups slapped together and called an army. The Skulin and Sons of Garmadon are glorified Biker Gangs that aren’t really big on war. The Serpentine have fought wars in the past, but aren’t really big on thatanymore . The Stone Army are the only actually unified fighting force. They also haven’t fought alongside each other beyond when everyone was fighting The Overlord. Zurg takes Armies.
Capability
To round things off we will be touching on the main tertiary factors of this matchup. Zurg’s experience is quite vague, but he’s likely been operating for somewhere in the range of a few decades, fighting almost exclusively with Star Command to limited successes, nothing compared to Garmadon’s millennia of experience against all manner of foes. Zurg primarily fights with a ranged weapon or relies on his support but on occasion how been shown to use martial arts, Garmadon was raised by who was effectively the god responsible for creating an incredibly complex and powerful martial art, while he himself created a martial art letting him 1v1 people as strong as Golden Master Lloyd without even fighting. Zurg consistently throws away his advantages with a monologue (something he is aware of himself) and lets his foes get out of whatever disadvantage they are in. Garmadon’s weakness is inherently tied to his struggle against his evil nature and the emotions he feels fighting his son. Garmadon is far too experienced and skilled for Zurg to handle, even if he weren’t likely to tell Garmadon exactly what he was planning. Capability goes to Garmadon.
Overall
It’s incredibly clear that while Zurg holds some advantages, his inability to deal with Garmadon in a timely manner means Garmadon will use his oppressively overwhelming power and durability advantage to annihilate Zurg with The Element of Destruction or counteract Zurg’s strategy with the Mega Weapon. While Garmadon’s competence in battle solidified this as a practical outcome.
Summary
Zurg
“So we meet again Buzz Lightyear, for the last time.”
Advantages:
Consistently faster
Zurg Prime could likely match Garmadon in base…
When in doubt Chrono-Disruptor
Zurgatronic Megaray lets him take over much of Garmadon’s Army
Far more experience utilizing an army effectively
Army is a single connected force
Gravinta or his more powerful tech can nuke the battlefield
NOS hard counters any Tech Options
Disadvantages:
Far weaker base vs base
… still can only potentially reach Universal ranges with a Crossover Mobile Game
Zurg Prime is still weaker than Oni Garmadon
Might just kill himself trying to steal the Mega Weapon
No counter to getting destroyed by Telekinesis
Weaker Army
Would likely monologue away any advantage if he could even get one
Star Command isn't available in HD
Garmadon
"Don't you see? I will never do what is right. The evil in my blood can never go away! It
has corrupted every ounce of my fiber, every bone in my body. I am Lord Garmadon!
Destiny took my family from me, and the only way for us to be together is to turn
everything in this world into my image! Then you'll all see what I see, feel what I feel!"
Advantages:
Far Stronger base vs base and with forms
Can do more without equipment
Can get past his speed disadvantage with Telekinesis
Resists all Zurg’s strongest options
The Mega Weapon lets him do basically whatever he wants
Only one with a Healing Option
Army is stronger
Doesn’t really need to rely on his support
Far more experienced, skilled, and competent
Stone Army can get past Mind Control
Best Ninjago Villain btw
Disadvantages:
Slower
Support generally doesn't meld well with him or with each other
Way worse ways to control Zurg’s Army
Likely Getting his army controlled
NOS screws up Tech based options
Bro refuses to show up in Dragons Rising
While Zurg’s speed, equipment and army gave him the tools to wage a war, he was no match for the Lord of Destruction's abilities, arsenal and overwhelming might.
The Evil Emperor Zurg is Garma-done
Final Tally
Zurg - (1) Seb (Bro wasn’t even on the blog)
Garmadon - (5) TripleCx3, JJSlidermanowar, Zaciguess, SatoK47, Sifu
The Winner is Garmadon
No Next Time?
If you’ve been keeping up with this blog, you will know that for the time being, this blog will not have any further group blogs. This was a great project I invested heavily in, but for now, I don’t plan on running anything public. Blogs as a whole are harder and harder to run, even for the bigger ones, and I myself am feeling spread thin across projects. That being said, I plan to release a blog going over a variety of Lego Matchups I like, so maybe get excited for that. Thanks for reading!
This was a great Finale! Thanks for all the hard work.
